I know that them and at least one other site had talked about restricting political discussions in a private room.

My thoughts are we have had new guys even on this site trying to push buttons.

Can big government be kept out?

Big tech is who you want to keep out more.

Anyone wanna go in on a new hosting business? If you're buying, I'm building! ;)
What kind of finances we talking? There must be enough of us here to set up a LLC and get our own hosting servers up. This has to be more than just a 2A thing, it has to make money.

Sounds interesting. If you have a site picked out and a biz plan, I am all ears.

I don't have anything like a formal business plan standing by, been pretty swamped on some other projects (not to mention the recent distractions), and as of a few days ago wasn't planning on getting back into the hosting biz!

That said, even with just a handful cycles spent on this, I've already come with at nearly a dozen unique and compelling "market hooks" which would make it both economically viable and attractive, as well as:

    1. Ways to directly align/interface with existing political and technology/privacy initiatives at the State level (Texas)

    2. Potential (and available) domains which can be used.

Infrastructure, connectivity, billing/P&L - these are all basic logistical challenges (assuming knowlegde of the technology/operational areas to make it work)...No real rocket science here.

What really makes this viable now, foundationally, are the existing big players stepping on their dicks in the most public way imaginable, while creating likely thousands (at least) of potential customers who are currently adrift and in search of a new home - as opposed to the more common "sorry, but our current vendor is working fine - we're good". One of the most significant challenges to a new business, and in this instance the stars are aligned, as it were....

Not sure I want to get any more specific here, but perhaps this is something worth discussing in a more selective fashion (as befits the discussion of commercial endeavors or trade secrets)....

The thing about this is, you're ALWAYS going to use and sell somebody else's services. Who can cut you off when they feel like it.
This is true to a point, but it is possible to build in such a way that it would be nearly impossible to reliably block you without taking themselves (and everyone else) down with them...

Big bucks. Build your own data center (since a data center could cut you off), get your own backbone connections (what if they cut you off?), set up as a domain registrar (since ICANN says it's up to the registrar to turn off domain names), add servers, staff... Maybe if I win the MegaMillions or PowerBall.

You could run it from home, off your consumer grade internet connection. Get cut off because you're running a business on a consumer line, in an area not zoned for business. $$
You could rent a few racks in a data center. You already have to abide by their ToC because they're not a common carrier but a private business. $$$$
You could run your own data center. $$$,$$$$,$$$. And still get fucked if your connection to the outside gets cut off.

And that's the physical side. On the tech side, your DNS could get black-holed. On the legal side, they could sue you into oblivion in at least six different ways I can think of.

You'd need to be the size of Google, Apple or Microsoft to get some degree of impunity.

Amazon and Apple started in a garage. With enough people there could be big bucks (whatever that is) with a good business plan. Democrat playbook, never let a tragedy go to waste.

    Holistic Resiliency.

For example (and really, a very small one at that), just at Layers 1-3: multiple facilities with private plant linkage, separate power grids (DCs on seperate overlapping grids, if possible), each facility with multiple ADMs (maxed out), as many physical fiber uplinks as possible (SONET/MOE/etc.), RF/Laser backhaul, and a heretofore ridiculous number of provider connections acting as eBGP peers to facilitate route distribution (once up and running you can get your own ARIN blocks to use as well), etc, etc., erc.....

Trust me, it can be done, but it would absolutely take some deep pocket backers to pull off...
