After reading 11 plus pages of this, I decided to go online and get a law degree. It was only $19.95 and they also gave me a medical doctorate for free. Just had to pay shipping and handling.

I hope this thread is still going when it arrives.

Almost forgot that next month I'll be having a sale on open heart surgery.
Can you provide the site for those degrees?

Not going to read the whole thread. If the vehicle is in the parking lot, Texas law says it is legal if the car is locked.

Had one of the big three oil companies try to have me fire one of my employees for having a gun in his car in the parking lot. They lost. I refused to fire him and pointed them to the Texas law. My company talked about firing him (would have had to fire me first), but they too backed off. Company policy does not trump state law.

Gotta love them shyster lawyers. Just like them quacks that like to call themselves doctors!

Say pretty much the same thing as us common folks, but they got that fancy degree to pay for. They probably sent the OP a bill for services rendered too!

One thing I like about my lawyer. He talks in plain English and gives a direct answer. Also doesn't talk down to other people that are trying to have a discussion, by acting arrogant and conceited like some we have seen.

    For the OP, as promised;

    From the Texas Labor Code

As you can see, Texas law generally prevents employers from prohibiting employees with an LTC from storing a firearm or ammunition in their vehicle on the employer parking lot, garage or other parking area. This also applies to other firearms r ammunition the employee is authorized by law to possess in a locked, privately owned motor vehicle.

There are exceptions and the OP will have to determine if they apply to his situation or not.
    Good info

There are two different things to consider in any legal scenario.
    1. Criminality
    2. Contractural agreements.

There are some protections when it comes to having a gun in your car and the local constabulary arresting you for it and the Local DA charging you.

However you make agreements when you accept employment. Those agreements effect the status employment. Not really going to send you to jail. But they can run you off.

Last time I saw this many lawyers at one place I walked by an ABA convention.
I once had the distinct displeasure of sharing a hotel with one (I won't say which.) of our bar associations. The inability to sleep when everyone else is on a non-stop, week-long drunken bender, screaming in the hallways and otherwise finding every possible way to make enough noise to wake the dead all night, every night, for an entire week, is seared into my memory.

If anything has made me disrespectful towards lawyers, it's been spending too much time with them.

No, company policy does not trump state law. I know from first hand experience. Ask BP's lawyers.
