Worse if thing about Alzheimer’s/dementia is it is hereditary. Watching your friends whose fathers died of it, know they will follow sucks!

Or your wife who is waiting for the. IoT to drop. Her mom started showing signs at 59. If she gets it, we may have 7 years before it hits. She does have the genetic marker.

We finally found a med that the wife could tolerate. But it's not helping. Maybe slowing the progression... not sure how I would know... the tests done by her neurologist are so subjective.

Houston is a long way away from E Oregon but thanx for the info!

    Thank you!!!

    I'll be hanging in there.

We have an Alzheimer's support group here.... I'll be joining at some point. And relying on my gun totin friends for some distraction.

You have my prayers as well, and support as much as possible.

You have my sympathies as well, because I saw what it did to my grandmother and several family members.

    Prayer sent.

My Father spent the last two-1/2 years of his life at the VA.

Every time I went to see him....he was worse....

We were relieved, when he passed......knowing he would not be suffering any longer....

In addition to meds, he recommended walking to keep muscle control. Get good sleep and use a CPAP if needed. Eat a Mediterranean diet.

When you say “Mediterranean”, I hear, unlimited lasagna and garlic bread, and picture me dying of obesity. I’m in!!!
This place rocks (a least the one by the Reliant). My guess they are pretty consistent at other locations. Well worth the road trip!

She is determined to walk every day, like she always has (so far she doesn't get lost but she keeps it short), sleeps well enough, but her eating habits have really changed from the healthy diet she used to maintain. I have a book on the Med diet here somewhere, I have taken over the cooking, so I will take another look at that.

So. On the long hair hobby board I frequent, it’s all international members.

There was one well known menber that went MIA for a while. We had a fun thread going on about how we were all going to go on a special ops mission to find her. We knew she worked as a random bridge toll worker in… the Netherlands, I think.

We googled how many bridges there were there and made jokes and jokey plans how we would find her. Well one Canadian member finally went on vacation there after a few weeks of that thread and NO joke FOUND her, just going in blind. Posted on the thread in real time, her efforts and success. It was awesome. Keep in mind we hardly even see posts of each other’s faces, mostly just hair photos of the back of our heads.

MIA lady just happened to have been called in to work a booth she normally didn’t work that day, too. Was totally wild.

    Thank you very much!!

My wife's dad and a cousin died from Alzheimer's, so I knew it could be coming. Living it is completely beyond my expectations and it's still very early in the process.

    I'll need those prayers!!!

    Sending up prayers

My mother refused to take the meds that could have slowed the progression. I believe that was a blessing because the worst part at the end went relatively quick. My aunt, my mother's sister who also subcomed to Alzheimers, took the meds and caused the worst part to be long drawn out.

Alzheimer's Disease, or dementia are horrible diseases. IMO, they rank right up there with cancer. Sadly, so far there is no cure that I know of for Alzheimer's yet. I know that they have some drugs that are suppose to slow down the progression of the disease, but I'm not even sure if that's a good thing either.

I can tell you, from a personal perspective, it's almost as hard on the families of the person stricken with Alzheimer's. That person you knew and loved, becomes a total stranger, because many times, you have become someone they don't know anymore either.

My prayers to those of you going through this battle, and you have my most heartfelt sympathies because I have been where you are right now. It ain't easy. Just so you know, I'm only a PM away if you wish to talk privately.
