nagels is full of s**T, my wife only shoots and carry's (CHL) semi-auto weapons. sig, glock, and 1911 and i would be willing to bet she could out shoot most if not all of the hags at nagels. i wonder if they think all female police officers should only carry a revolver too?

The powder horn on 90 and 410 is fair for a small shop as well as ho gun on culebra wane is a greater guy but he dose take some time to warm up to, sportsman’s warehouse on 281 and 410 is the best box store in SA. As for academy, and bass pro... well in my honest opinion I am on a mission to boycott them and encourage others to do the same. bass pro will not sell anything labeled as tactical gear, don’t believe it call and ask about a Leopold mk 4 or an m-4 etc in our current state of politics I believe that we should stand united against those that would arrest our constitutional rights from us under the guise of political correctness and this year academy is following suit. As for nagels the common thread is that they are overpriced rude and poor service I seldom go by there and when I do I am always disappointed. And I went to high school with their oldest daughter. Avoid them or not your choice their clientele is the same elite crowd it has always been. Durys is a good shop prices are consistent with most just shop around before you buy and make informed decisions. IMO

It's funny, ain't it? I found Dury's to be rude, and Nagel's ta be good. Wayne (Hoguns) warmed up to me right away - first thing I did was tell him off!<SEG> He commented that I was pretty cocky - I shot back that I also carried money. He laughed, and we've gone from there. ;)
In fairness, my family and Nagels goes back to Bob's Dad & my Granparents shooting together back when Ab Toepperwein was still around, so maybe I'm just used to their ways.

If I were picking, it'd be:

    1. Powderhorn
    2. Hoguns
    3. Nagels

I don't know about the box stores - been in 'em, but generally find their "sales" people to be inepts that know squat about guns.

    Good price Good service

I have been in a lot of the gun shops in town Durys, Powderhorn, HoGuns even going back to Charlie Spann but if you want a good price and don’t need it right then try Hunter’s Headquarters 210-684-9376. I went there looking for a 460 s&w he told me my cost was 21.00 over his price gave me my out the door price then he called the next day and told me he found it someplace else for 33.00 cheaper then he quoted and I should add he had my pistol in 3 days and 130.00 cheaper then anyone could get it in SA.

No issue w/them - but he's a home-based business, which means no toys to choose from, and limited warranty. Most of the regular gun shops will stand behind what they sell, even if it means repairing it themselves. Cheaper isn't always....cheaper.

I would go with the Powderhorn, a really shop with affordable prices. Academy is good as well if you know what you are looking for. I would steer clear of Bass Pro though, way overpriced and the help there is not friendly.

+1 on Powderhorn. My wife just bought me a MP15 from there, and they didn't treat her like an idiot. She said she'd be going back (that means more stuff for me!) :)

Academy does sell lots of AR-15s and even tactical shotguns....not always the most knowledgeable but they are cheap and Academy bucks political correctness on a regular basis.

That is my understanding as well. I was told by a Bass Pro employee that they will not sell a rifle that accepts double stack mags. All of their AR's are singles.

I don't care for academy to purchase a firearm. They do not stand behind the products they sell. They offer no warranty what so eve,. then even make u sign a contract that states they do not offer any service or any type of warranty on the firearms they sell.
Also I thought Wayne shut down?

I have not confirmed this, but I heard Wayne is still open doing gunsmithing and selling accessories. However, he does not have an FFL anymore (he let it expire) therefore he cannot sell firearms.

Been meaning to stop by and see what's going on at Hoguns, but I just haven't had the chance.

    Cheers! M2

I haven't had time to head out to that side of town myself also. If he still doing smithing work thats great I have a 1911 thats needs some tweaking.
