Illegals Cost Taxpayers $113 Billion a Year: Why Does No One Care?

“(Washington, D.C July 6, 2010) A new study released today by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) estimates that illegal immigration now costs federal and local taxpayers $113 billion a year.

The report, The Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration on U.S. Taxpayers, is the most comprehensive analysis of how much the estimated 13 million illegal aliens and their U.S.-born children cost federal, state and local governments.

Money is the root ... they don't come here for the 24 hour IHOPs.
correct...the illegals come here for money, but the corporations would have to spend alot more than 113 billion if they had to pay minimum wage and benfits to all those illegals working under the table. that having been said I dont care what it costs, we need to have control of our border. if it means my 79 cent head of lettuce becomes $1.50...then so be it.

and i see the illegals in ihops and denny's from time to time so dont think that doesnt play a role as well.

To keep the progressive, marxist ways you have to have voters. What's the easiest way to get votes? Buy them, by allowing the flood to come these folks will provide more votes for the liberal, progressive way which is destroying this country.

You accurately hit the nail right on the head ! And a clean, sanitary, peaceful method to cure the problem of both the "mojados" (wets) and the progressive marxists seems out of reach at present. Meaningful, strong, conservative leadership must be put into the Oval office and the US Senate and the floors swept of the like of what has brought our Republic to its present sorry condition. But that may not be painless for all concerned....

Actually, it is only about money.
They come here for work and a better life.

Businesses hire them for several reasons: they are cheap and they actually do their jobs.

Those of you who have had your roof done in the past 20 years: did you call INS? Did you check with the contractor to make sure only legal workers were used? What about your lawn service and if you have it maid service? **** no. You look at the invoice, see the lower price and grab your check book. Shop at Wal-Mart? Do you lose sleep over the fact that the shoes you are wearing were made in China, the food you eat was imported from Venezuela or Mexico? Nope, you buy a little more with the money you saved.

One thing that cracks me up is the character of people. Consdier this: during huricane Kratrina we had a huge flood of people from New Orleans come to Texas. How many of those people just sat in their government paid for Hotel rooms doing nothing but waiting? Why can a person from Mexico cross our border, not speak English and still manage to have a job and a place to stay inside 24 hours of arriving? Frankly, keep that person and ship the welfare sucking scum bag back. Fair trade in my book.

Securitywise: yeah we need to close that border down tight. Then we need to fix things up so Pedro and Pepe can come here to work while stopping terrorists.

People like to make this simple, when it isn't. You can point the finger in so many directions. The bottom line is that there is a lot to fix.

    [rant]
Everyone talks about securing the Mexico border, what about Canada? Why are we one of the only nations that gives citizenship to people born in the country? Why is the roofing contractor supposed to use more expensive "legal" labor when his competitors aren't? So he can go out of business and not feed his family? Why is everyone so afraid of "AMNESTY" yet they love Reagan who gave it to 3 million illegals? Why don't we enforce our laws? If not amnesty, how do we get them back across the border cost-effectively? How do you crack down on all the companies using "illegal" labor.

    IMO you:
    1) End the right to citizenship by being born here
    2) Give amnesty to all immediate family members of a US Citizen
    3) Crack down on businesses by enforcing current law and adding fines and jail time.
    4) Eliminate all access to school, healthcare, etc. if you are not a legal citizen.
    5) Eliminate the ability for LEGAL foreigners to access our colleges. Why are we training people to compete against us?
    6) Militarize our borders
How do you get all that done?

But hey why even focus there. Wouldn't we be better off fixing some other broken things that might be easier? I mean, if we are going for pie in the sky, why not:
    1) Eliminate all foreign aid unless we have zero debt and a budget surplus
    2) Same with all things like "National Endowment for the Arts"
    3) Same for all subsidies like Amtrak
    4) Why is the US funding 22% of the UN budget?
    5) Why not switch to a flat rate three part consumption tax? (national, state, and local)
Hell, I could rant on this one item for pages. Lets see... Americans pay: Corporate Tax. National income tax. Most Americans pay state income tax. Property Tax. Sales Tax. Social Security Tax. Unemployment tax. Workers Compensation Tax. Estate tax. Capital Gains tax. Buy gas? Tax. Pay your phone bill? Tax. What about "fees" like for building permits, car registrations, Business license, drivers licenses, dog licenses, fishing license, hunting license, marriage license, toll roads, etc.? Answer: TAX, TAX, TAX, TAX, TAX, TAX, TAX, TAX, TAX. What about all the penalties for not paying the fees and taxes or not paying them correctly or on time? More F'ing TAX.

How much money do you really spend in taxes? 60% of your income or more when you think of how all those taxes are rolled invisibly into the cost of goods?
How much money is spent in this country just to calculate, pay, collect and verify the collection of the F'ing taxes?

Its at about this time that I just throw up my hands and think of Leonidas's signature:
"America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards."

A good post, Rum Runner. Why end the right to citizenship by birth, though? To discourage future immigration?
I would say it discourages those who come here illegally only to give birth and have an automatic sponsor to help them gain their citizenship. It is another case of the letter of the law being followed even though illegal jumping the river to give birth a day later was not the intent of the immigration law.

Yep. No reason for an incentive to break the law to take advantage of a loophole.

They do jobs that no one will do because they come over here and depress the wages so people can't live on the wages that they are willing work for. They don't follow the rules like we do. If they want a better life why don't they stay in Mexico and make it a better place to live. Also how much money do we spend in the form of our taxes to print everything in Mexican when most of them can't read any ways. They refuse to speak English and God forbid you get in a car crash with one of them.
