Funny thing is my company truck is apportioned and only had a plate on the rear when I got it. Never been stopped in it despite running hundred of miles on any given day.

My last truck only had a front plate and no rear plate, and I was stopped on several occasions when I didn’t have a trailer hooked up. It was always just a quick stop, ask for license and registration, walk up front and see it was apportioned, then sent on my way. But annoying either way.

I'm a supporter of the police and all the things they have to do. Personally, I don't usually have the time (or want to take the time) to stop and talk to the police about something I could or should have done. It's really easy to follow the law, and the law says visible plates front and rear with the rear plate illuminated. Same with trailer lights.

I would rather the police spend their time stopping truckloads of illegal aliens and drug runners, speeding 18 wheelers, and texting drivers out on the highways where my wife, children and grandchildren have to be every day than to worry about the absence of my front license plate...

They don’t “have to worry about” front plates. Just like they do t have to pull you over for going 63 in a 60.

If someone is stopped for it, it’s because whoever pulled them over decided to spend their time on it instead of anything you mentioned.

    Display it from the windshield.

When we make ready new Corvettes and Camaros we do not put the bracket on. We only put them on after delivery and if the customer requests. Some people get ticketed frequently and some get none.

On that last truck with no rear plate, you should have just gotten one of those paper plates that are all the rave now. haha...

I had a clean 92 Camaro that I didn't run a plate on. I was pulled over 4-5 times over it. To the point I went and got one.

    It just allows probable cause.
    Same thing here
I had a truck in 2010 with a front guard and no mount for a front plate
Got stopped 5 or 6 times
Given warnings ...some verbal some written

The only reason Texas has this law is because of the toll road authorities pushed for it so they can record your front plates and rear plates when you're on the toll road.

The only reason any State has this rule is profit. They can justify the cost and "provide jobs" to more people if more plates have to be made. Secondary benefit is the traffic fines.

All licenses of ANY type are only for profit.

My electric clown car didn’t have a front plate. And I didn’t know where it was.

    I rear-ended someone.
    Car went to the shop.

So I go to pick it up.
They screwed the bracket into the front bumper…crooked and not centered.

So my new bumper had holes in it “from the repair”.

    Soooo irritating…

I feel ya. After being pulled over a couple of times and the windshield trick became dangerous in high g turns, I finally drilled my original bumper to mount a plate. It sucks.

Windshield display doesn’t meet requirements. It must be “permanently affixed” to the vehicle.

I drove a car without a front plate for about 8 years. The only time I was pulled over was by a Trooper on some back roads on a trip to Abilene. I was headed out for some dove and hog hunting so we got to talking about firearms. I was respectful and honest, left with a warning.

I had an idea a few years back…to print plates on vinyl, so guys could put them on their bumpers without drilling holes.

I never could figure out the legalities of reproducing (and not falsifying) a plate that you own. And abuse could be hard to deter.

But then I saw something shiny and it never went anywhere…

I saw a new Camaro at a car show that had a front plate bracket that folded down under the front with a remote control to operate it.

Now that my truck is legally "garaged", and insured, in Arkansas (with the required AR plate on the rear bumper only) been expecting to get stopped (probable cause) at one of the notorious traps on 59/69 on the trip between Houston and Texarkana.

Since one of those trips just might be with some ammo I have stored in Houston (and not that much, after that boating accident), but likely enough to be a suspect "domestic terrorist" if the fucking dims and woke prosecutors have their way.

Never in my life have I been the least bit antsy about traveling anywhere in this country, until now.

There are numerous models of hideaway front license plate brackets, including some that are electric. Solves both issues of display and not screwing holes in the front bumper. On my 06 Silverado SS, I just used wing nuts on long bolts to fix the plate to the lower grill so I would not have to damage the bumper.
