State funding for border security grew from $110 million in 2008-2009 to nearly $3 billion for the 2022-2023 budget cycle. Kinky Friedman was one of two independent candidates in the 2006 Texas Governor election. His border control plan was called the “Five Mexican Generals Plan”. He said that he would divide the Texas border into five sections and appoint a Mexican general to be in charge of each section. He would give each general $1 million per year and reduce that sum by $5,000 each time an illegal immigrant crossed the border. $5 million is significantly less than $3 billion. Kinky and his plan were laughed off at the time, but maybe we should give it a try. Nothing else is working.

So, give them each $5 million.
Border security is the responsibility of the nation in question. It is an extremely bad idea to make our border security dependent on Mexico of all places.

Mexico is still a sovereign nation, we can't just "get Mexican generals" to do it, not with how corrupt everything is over there

I agree with you except the "over there". Seems the same corruption has taken hold "over here"

The "Mexican generals" plan doesn't have to make our security dependent on Mexico.

I think you're assuming the plan is the only thing we would do. In that case, of course it's a stupid idea. But as part of a larger border security program, it might be brilliant. We build a wall, use drones, dogs, etc, etc -- all the common proposals that we know will be greatly effective, AND we use the "Mexican generals".

Mexicans doing things in Mexico offers much greater range of options than anything we can do over here.

The problem is you can't count on them to do anything. Much less anything good

I say build guard towers along the border close enough to see each other.
Give any adult sized person crossing a .223 between the eyes.
If you shoot the parents in front of the kids, you might as well shoot the kids... certainly any old enough to remember what happened, cause they will be your enemies (and/or dependents) for life.

    Gunz are icky.
Here’s my idea: Dig a canal. A big canal. All the way across the US. Along the southern border. Call it the new Panama Bypass Canal.
USCG patrols it. Bridges where the locks would be. few and cross traffic highly regulated/controlled. Remote gun towers on watch 24/7/365. Weapons free.
No need for a wall any more. Big wide salt water canal lets ships pass through.
Hey the Chi-Com have the original canal? Pffft. Who cares.
Would take decades to build. Lots of jobs.

I have no problem with your canal...

Use the material excavated to build a berm behind a 30 ft concrete wall on the states side. Build an interstate hwy on top of the berm with feeder connectors running north. Gun emplacements could be part of the wall as butresses. Might as well add in new high speed rail too...
