The man was punching a woman, (force disparity) but not deadly force, so not justified, right? even if it was during the commission of a felony (robbery)?

How many punches to kill a woman?

+ the key word ............robbery......armed or not...

If I were on the Jury he'd walk........

It may have been a political arrest......knowing he was justified but arresting him to avoid protests............

    This is interesting.

Sounds as if the dead guy was running away when he got shot?

"According to the affidavit, surveillance footage shows Betts running toward the door being hit by both women before Jackson told them to move and shot Betts."

According to search records, Jackson does not have a criminal history. He waited for police to arrive and agreed to an interview at headquarters.

Jackson said he was "concerned for the safety of the two women" and aimed for Betts’ leg. It’s unclear where Betts was hit.

The above was perhaps the biggest mistake this man could have made in this situation.

Sounds like he tried to help and made a bad decision. Hope the criminal justice system doesn’t chew him up and ruin his life. Then again, not sure shooting an unarmed robber makes him a “good” guy either.

Theft really has no legal consequences anymore so this behavior is acceptable unless you are the victim. The shooter hopefully finds someone on the jury that will find him innocent. I would find him innocent and have no problem with lethal force for theft. If you deprive the store owner the ability to make a living and feed their family isn’t that theft of an irreplaceable item? The financial ability to survive?

Although I believe that these scumbags need to be shot more often, the shooter’s logic infers that he would have been justified to also shoot the two women for beating on the shoplifter.

Read the comments on stories like this.

I get sick of people saying "let them take it, it's insured and no loss to you or the store".

What ignorant retards. No it's not insured except by the customer by paying for the increase in overhead and price increases. So in essence you insure it till the company closes shop cause the losses are too high to sustain.

No I'm not shooting shoplifters. I've caught hundreds in my day, done my part, but I hate thieves cause they are always stealing from the fellow customer. Now armed robbery may buy you the full ride. FAFO

Well if you think I'm gonna risk my liberty for the good of a billion dollar company, to prevent them from losing a couple or twenty bucks, you're nuts.

Everyone in this scenario made nothing but stupid decisions. The store girls for giving a shit. The thief for beating on the girls. The shooter for shooting the guy when he was running away.

Yep, as infuriating as it is let them go.

The wife has people filling carts full of stuff almost daily and walking out with it. Some she can deter by obviously watching and engaging them but the pros know she can't and won't stop them. They don't have actual LP that arrests shoplifters anymore cause the civil restitution never happens, the prosecution never happens so it's a loss of money.

Back when I did it for walmart Kmart and target we would arrest people for a couple buck cause the police always came and the extra hundred bucks in civil restitution more than paid for store expenditures and my time and the deterrent was real. Especially when we arrested employees. We would handcuff them and make sure the police walked the store with them on the way to the car to goto jail. So all the other employees knew we were watching and the cost was real. A theft record and paying it back.

You can't do any of this anymore. Crap. They let people resign instead of firing them for stealing.

I couldn't do that job anymore. Just watching people go, no apprehension.

That said, customer all over the country are waking up to the actual cost of this stuff to them in price increases, inventory shortages and stores simply leaving these areas so they are getting fed up.
