To be fair, that was back when old timers had to deal with things like the great depression, WW2, etc.

Now it's easy for the village idiot to make it to 80-90 years old. Just look at joe biden

Well, earlier I mentioned the boomer generation, and that is a time I remember when elders were still valued, but just then becoming less valued. As I said, I learned a lot from old people. But I don't think it was just me. But yes, as a boomer most of the old people I interfaced with were from the depression/WWII era.

I still think the current old farts like me have things to offer. Sigh.

Sure, but signal/noise ratio gets more and more lopsided as we get further away from times of trouble. That's been happening forever

Age doesn't sharpen a dullard. Trust me, I'll be as dumb tomorrow as i am today.

I don't think I ever drank any of that stuff.
I did have a cop make me pour out a pint of cherry vodka at my prom.

I've done all I can do as far as teaching, or attempting to help in every way I can and everything I can still do or remember. I've always stated this aint the only way but it's a good way, why? because it's time tested and proven. What more can I say. I also told them you can follow the sheeple or you can go your path. If you've listened and uderstood you'll know which way to go.

“Hard times make hard men. Hard men make easy times. Easy times make soft men. Soft men make hard times.”

    ^^^ This

Aging dullards: That may be true for some old folks, but ignores that there are others that have knowledge and experiences that are missing from those of younger age that could benefit from stopping long enough to listen and learn.

IMO it's just dumb to exclude a segment of population that may be beneficial to one's life/learning. The dullards among us exist at all ages and can be safely ignored at all times.

If one is interfacing with a dullard senior, just be kind. They probably have gone thru a lot.

Kindness is in great shortage today. As witnessed in OP's story. It costs nothing to be kind, and benefits both parties. No reason to be a dick to anybody that is being nice to you. But narcissists only see things from a "me me me" perspective.
