They bombard you with warnings that are complete BS. There is NO United Nation treaty that is gonna take your guns away... that is pure fantasy that has been debunked numerous times. The NRA has resorted to non-stop scare tactics. Its unbecoming and it doesn't make the 2nd Amendment any stronger.
These days the NRA is more concerned with taking care of the NRA than of protecting the 2nd amendment.

I think GOA and JPFO do a better job.

For such a high-number-poster, I cannot fathom the depth of your animosity toward the NRA. Perhaps one Tequila too many?

1. No Hate.... their tin foil laden mail outs no longer represent what I want fom a pro gun organization.
2. the NRA is not even close to being "far more protective of our 2nd Amendment rights than any other organization". Not even close. How many other pro gun organizations are you famailiar with?
3. The UN or any treaty they propose does not trump the 2nd Amendment and established case law. This has been well established, although "the UN is coming!" does generate income from paranoid members.
4. I dont drink Tequila and haven't had any alcohol tonight, although a glass of whiskey sounds appealing right about now.
5. A high number of posts on Texas Gun Talk indicates I should tow the NRA line? I too have paid my dues for over 20 years, often paying my dues several times a year to support them.
6. the NRA has an exclusive on supportting liberty and freedom? They have what, around 4 million members? Does that mean 306 million other non-NRA Americans dont support liberty and freedom? My opinion is that the NRA is at best a luke warm advocate for gun rights that focuses more on fundraising than legislation. It was not always this way.

Wow! This thread got off track in a hurry.

Back to the original question for a moment: The first (and best) choice we can make at this time is to not discuss what we might do in a public forum. I don't want to get all "tin hat" or anything, but Napolitano's crew is more than capable of monitoring sites like this and - potentially - using it against us at their leisure.

As for the NRA being paranoid, that is their charge. They tried to NOT be that way when Clinton got elected and he made a pretty sincere attempt to screw gun owners. Not supporting the only organization that actively lobbies Congress to keep our interests alive is just stupid. Sorry, there's no better word for it. The game in Washington is "politics" and you either play it or you lose. As someone once put it, "In politics, you're either invited to the dinner or you're on the menu."

As for being worried about what the Obama Administration might do, all you have to consider is what they've tried to do so far with everything BUT gun control! They are dedicated socialists and socialism is NEVER compatible with people having the ability to defend themselves. It was widely reported during the first year after his election that he would hold off on gun legislation until after the mid-term elections. Because he can't extract the USA from two and a half wars (because you can't bring troops home to no jobs), he has alienated his leftist base. He has to throw them a bone or two and believe me, gun control is one of them. Plenty of Congress-slugs have bills already drawn up and ready to go once the White House picks up the flag.

As for 'tin hats' and paranoia, please consider that a little paranoia can save your life. Don't run off and join a cult, but at least be prepared that things could get ugly.

I am dropping my NRA membership. I am soooo sick of these BS emails and snail mail packets I get that are screaming about the U.N. coming to get my guns....Jesus Christ give it a rest. The NRA screams that the sky is falling more than Alex Jones.

They waste far more than what I pay in membership sending me this crap all the time.....it is old news that has been floating around for a decade.

I can tell you living now in Texas it's much different they many places outside of Texas. Try living in Illinois were I did or the NE. It's very anti gun and this is by the politicans. You can claim we are all wearing tin foil hats however it's coming. When a populace loses it's firearm's they are subdued. Just look at history. I would rather be writing, emailing calling our lawmakers about not doing a thing to take away our 2nd Amendment rights then claim that no one will come to take our arms. I don't believe anyone will show up at the door saying I want them, it will be gradual. Like allowing only one firearm a month, etc.

I moved here last year. Two months before I moved there was an interesting incident. A gentleman went on vacation, he was also a gun collector. Two days after he leaves the police show up and load approximatly 200 weapons into a van and take them away. (I will see if I can get the picture of guns without cases tossed on top of each other like cordwood) The reason why? They said someone could have broken into the home and taken the weapons so they thought it best to do this. No charges in the incident whatsoever. He wasn't a known collector but apparently somone called the police and said he had guns in the house. In Illinois you can get arrested for having ONE round of ammuntion without a FOID card. I have also seen that happen. Texas is different but you still have to be vigilent, it's a much different world out there in many places.

Here is the video of the above incident. It was 3 blocks from my home. They state there was a burglary, however there was none, there was no crime. Would you want your gun collection taken and tossed like these with NO charges. Yes the 4th amendment was violated and where did the weapons go? They weren't returned and what happened to the home??? I was condemned so he's no be allowed to live there. Yes freedoms are taken away and if you stick your head in the sand one day you will wake up have nothing left just like the 67 year old man.
