    1. I'd be interested to see how one of the FN barrels PSA has used would've fared in the GT test.

    2. We're talking about a sub $300 upper with bolt/ch included. Some of ya'll Richie Rich's need to unwind your panties. It's NOT "just as good" and we all know that. The takeaway is that it's "good enough" for many, poors or not.

    3. Remington has been in decline for a LLOOOOONNNGGG time. Last modern firearm I bought from them was a 870 Super Mag circa 2000. I had to bend the ejector to make it work but it has been flawless since. Almost every other Remmie I own is 40+ years old.

    4. I inherited a circa 2010ish Remington 700 VLS. That sob shoots lights out.

Remington has been in decline for a LLOOOOONNNGGG time.

Remington abandoned quality when they stopped making the first generation XP-100. :)

Seriously, though, I think the reason Remington has a bad rap from serious rifle loonies (a term I use with great affection) is that it became more and more troublesome to accurize the M700. "Blueprinting" a Rem 700 got to be so common because so many rifles needed it. Then the boutique makers came in and started producing "fits everywhere a 700 fits" clones that didn't require any esoteric gunsmithing to make them essentially perfect.

It got to where if you wanted to build an accurate 700 custom, the first rule was to use an action not made by Remington. Or at least it seemed that way.

When you've lost that much street cred you're going to have a hard time regaining it.

Whenever you have something manufactured in a large factory, there are going to be problems that make it out the door. A good company will institute enough quality assurance to minimize that problem, and a great company will fix the problem if there's any inkling that it was their fault. A truly terrible company won't answer your phone calls or texts.

Ruger ranks really high in my book, because I've seen them repair stuff that they could have easily walked away from. The VERY few times I've needed parts, I got exactly what I needed and it was done with a minimum of problems. They had a recall on the Mark IV pistols, and they sent an extra magazine as an apology. Winchester is ok in my book as well. I won a rifle at a sporting dinner back around 1994. A really nice Model 70, stainless, with the Browning Boss added to it. I didn't shoot it much, but over the years I noticed some brass that wouldn't resize. It took me a while, but I finally figured out that it was fired in that rifle. I contacted Winchester about getting it fixed. Of course the first thing the guy on the phone said was that I probably overloaded a reload and screwed it up, but eventually he had me send it to them. They quickly realized that it had a bad chamber from the factory and could not be repaired. They sent me a new rifle of BETTER value! This was after I had the gun for 20 years. I'm still amazed. I've never had an issue with Sig (other than the recall on early P320s), Henry, Savage, S&W, Springfield, or Kimber. You see a lot of complaints about Kimber, but I think it's because they had a great reputation and lost it when they increased production. I think they're still better than Colt, but Colt does set a low bar.

Now, Taurus is a different matter. They make some very decent guns, mostly because they are using someone else's proven design (e.g., Beretta and S&W). I had a 1911 that really wasn't too bad, but the ejector went bad. Ejectors are a weak point on 1911s, which is why John Browning changed the design on the High Power. I tried to get a replacement, only to find that Taurus used a slightly different length ejector than EVERYBODY ELSE. OK, fine, I'll get their ejector. Only took 6 months. Their factory support is on life support. You don't have to look far to find tons of complaints. Buy a Taurus at your own risk.

I had a Remington 700 BDL. Beautiful rifle. Looked more expensive than it actually was, though it wasn't cheap at all. It was very finicky about ammunition (accuracy wise). As the barrel heated up, the rounds would "walk" across the target because of the poor fit to the stock. I fixed that by glass bedding it. But what I couldn't fix was the safety. On a 700, you have to snap off the safety in order to open the bolt. Randomly, that would cause the rifle to fire. Yes, I said "fire". Scary? Oh, yeah! I had a couple of different gunsmiths look at it, but they couldn't isolate a problem. Eventually there were enough people injured (not by my rifle!) that 60 Minutes did a story about how Remington ignored the problem for over 20 years. I understand they came up with a fix, but by that time I had run into hard times and guess what rifle made my "Time to Go" list? I bought the crappiest, cheapest Winchester Model 70 as a backup for that 700, and I still have it nearly 50 years later. It's a tack driver that shoots any ammo you put in it, and the bolt can be opened to unload the rifle without snapping off the safety.

Now having badmouthed Remington, I have to say that some of their stuff is really good - the Model 870 pump shotgun is a clear example of that. But even the venerable 870 was suffering under the prior management and you can find lots of complaints about fit-and-finish. I really hope the new owners turn things around.

I have a 70’s era 700bdl that I had a little work done on. New trigger (it needed due those trigger issues back in the day) and bedded / floated. Also had a muzzle break milled into the barrel.

I have a long string of heart shots / spine shots with that rifle. Action is butter smooth (no work done in that). And it’s just an amazing piece of workmanship.

When my daughter was 12 I bought her a 770 in 243. The difference in workmanship is shocking. It’s accurate enough. But it feels so cheap. She has since moved on to a Savage Axis in 6.5cm, and that cheapest of Savages is miles better and more accurate than the 770.

It’s unlikely I would buy another REM rifle. I’ve handled a bunch of Bergara rifles. They are true works of art. Maybe the most butter smooth action I’ve worked.

The new REM stuff is just inferior from every perspective.

I have had and shot Hi Points that would run flawlessly.
I have had Colt 1911s that wouldn't run a whole magazine.
I have had several Rugers that I have had to return so Ruger could fix them.
I had a Smith & Wesson/Walther PPK that was junk.
I had a Smith & Wesson Shield that had to be returned to be fixed.
I have an AMT Hardballer that will run all day long.
I have a couple of Taurus revolvers that are great.
I've never had any luck with a semi-auto Taurus.
I have a Bond Arms that had to be returned to be fixed.
I had a Cimarron that had to be returned to be fixed.

I think every manufacturer turns out junk every now and then. How they handle the problem is how I judge the company.

I’m just saying that if I see someone show up at the range with a PSA rifle I know it’s time to leave.

They’re either gonna do something completely stupid, or come over and start hitting on my while telling me why 6.5CM is superior. Probably both.

They’re worse than the people that buy M&P 15s and slap on free float rails, heavy barrels, and aftermarket stocks in their garage using vises and pipe wrenches, then go to the range and call it a target rifle or “varmint gun”.

Ive had the most issues with ruger centerfire rifles, specifically the American GO wild camo model. My .308 wouldnt shoot any factory ammo less than 2 moa but would shoot h4895 handloads loaded at or near max submoa easily. My .300wm would have brass that was extremely difficult to eject so I sent it into Ruger. They never told me what was wrong but they did send a brand new rifle back to me which worked fine.. both have moved on to new homes.

Its a shame because the barrel profile on those rifles is near perfect for my needs. I still buy their revolvers and 10/22s. I stick with Sako/Tikka/Sauer for factory bolt guns

    No mention of RG?

I've got an RG revolver that I will almost certainly bring with me the next time I get to a TGT Family Reunion. I'll put it on the prize table but I seriously doubt anyone will choose it over a T-shirt.
My mom had a RG ages ago. I hadn’t thought of that thing in forever. My brother still has it. .22LR I think?

Maybe not the worst ever but Grendel must be on the list. Was gifted a P12 in the late 90's. Total POS.

Believe it or not my CRAZY expensive Sero GM6 .50 BMG has a manufacturing flaw in that the ejector wasn't hardened from the factory.
Now its jammed up inside the bolt and the US distributor is radio silent.
Youtube videos on the problem and a fix IF you can get the damn thing out.

I have a matching numbers Knights suppressor / HK23 and it blows off the barrel when fired. IE the combo was built by Knights.
    Contacted Knights.
They want $150 to LOOK (not fix) it.

So even the expensive guns can be turds.

LOL....there are no custom A-Bolts...........you can't get anyone to rebarrel them because you can't get the barrel off without destroying the receiver..........

I was being sarcastic as hell........
