i am thinking about buying a rifle and i do not know the rules in Texas too well. I was placed in a mental hospital when i was 16. Now I am 18 and doing so much better. Do my records from before i was 18 have say in whether i get a firearm? And does being placed in a hospital bar me from owning a firearm?

Can't accurately answer you question regarding your placement because it happened when you were a juvenile and am not sure how "closed" your records would be by being a juvenile when this happened but the most accurate answer would be had by consulting an attorney (definately not info received on the internet).
