Academy has stopped carrying 9mm makarov! Why? I cant find it anywhere locally. Have to start reloading for it now. Im not paying 15 bucks a box at a gun show again!

They have 2 rows of 9mm luger, who needs that many choices?

They got rid of their bulk discount too. I used to be able to go in and buy an unopened case of ammo for cost + tax but now they charge full retail for each box of ammo in the case. And what makes it worse is they have raised their prices aswell, some are even more than wally world.

??? What the hell, why would anyone sell you something at cost?! No matter how many you buy...

Not doubting you, but can't believe they would do that. What's the catch?

I've been seeing that they may not have the lowest price. I found on some items, like the last EOTech I bought, Gander Mountain was cheaper. WalMart had 250 UMC .45 ACP for $10 less, at 87.99 today.

    I noticed that too.

I think because they used to have all the Pistol Ammo behind the counter
and they moved it to squeeze it between the Shotgun and Rifle Ammo.

    No more Makarov, 5.45 X 39 or 7.62 X 54.
Sucks because their prices were good.

I really think Academy's firearms buyers are operating on some criteria besides common sense and the actual market: I had talked to one of their corporate buyers at ASC once, asked him why they never sell any 28 ga. ammo: the guy working there agreed with me, noted the suprisingly high number of 28 ga. guns they sell, how it's a very "hot' gauge for dove hunting, subgauge tournaments, women shooters, etc. etc.; he walked off suprised like he had really discovered the holy grail of a product they needed to be carrying, but that's the last I ever heard of it.. It's still a real rarity to find them there.

I have some friends who are retailers of ammo. One told me that he usually gets 12-13 pages of ammo listings from his distributor. That has dropped to 6 pages. I've had problems getting pistol primers. They aren't scarce but they're harder to find, now.

I hate to say it but the election hysteria seems to be revving up.

Bullets and brass are available for the Makarov 9x18. There's no reason why you couldn't reload for the Mak. A pound of powder would last forever with that tiny charge! I load 9x19 for a dime/round.

How much was Academy charging for a box a Makarov when they had it?

I only ask because I have never found any good ammo deals at Academy in the last 2 years. But, to be fair, I have never shopped for Makarov there.

I am actually shocked the other way. I have never been able to find 9x18 at academy. I am shocked that it was available at other locations. I have been getting mine at Cheaper than Dirt, though I know some are still holding a grudge against them.

As I recall, the Monarch brand sold for either $9.99 or $10.99 for a box of 50 last time I bought some there, which was probably about a year ago. I didn't know they'd stopped carrying it.
