That bites, I have not purchased any makarov in a while but Academy was the local place to get it here in SA. My neighborhood Wally worlds here in NW SA beat the pants off Academy price wise on ammo, and always have at least when I have paid attention. Not to happy about that as I am trying to get another CZ 82 to shoot in the near future.

The Academy in Selma, TX used to stock 9x18 Makarov as a normal item.

They have not had any in a while.

When I inquired as to the availability of said ammo, they said it would be stocked by the 7th of July.

Upon further inquiry, it seems the Department of State has blocked the importation of Russian ammo into the United States because the Russkies are helping the Syrians.

Right now, the best deal delivered on 9x18 I have been able to find is Silver bear or Tul ammo from Sportsmans guide or lve from aim or classic arms. Been looking for something better but might need to suck it up soon as ammo prices seem to be on the climb.

    Academy Monarch prices were:

    9 X 18 Makarov ( 50 rounds ) $9.99
    5.45 X 39 AK-74 ( 30 rounds ) $8.99
    7.62 X 54 Mosin ( 20 rounds ) $9.99
    7.62 X 39 AK-47 ( 20 rounds ) $4.99

Decent for the convenience...while it lasted.

well as I said to buy it locally. Ill just make my own and cut the red tape. Im not big into buying ammo online.
Ammo to go is in Brenham. I know that's a bit of a drive from Round Rock, but for those of us who live in the NW corner of Houston, It's pretty close to buying local.

Because so many are willing to buy online, fringe calibers take up space that will be used by higher-margin, faster moving products.

As for a Russian ammo ban, it happens periodically. It will end.

I bought most of what academy had in 545x39. Ill buy the rest soon.

The guy said that russian imports are being blocked and being this is an election year certain ammo just never restocks till months later if the climate is back to quote normal.
