When conceal carrying in the nude, it IS a pain in the rectum.

Seriously though. My first time "carrying", was in AZ and I open carried. I personally loved it. It WAS kinda like touching the pool water with your toes but once I jumped in, I felt just fine. I think if I had an option, I'd OC.

I bet it is. With only 1 logical place to hide said weapon. Also I doubt that ppl want to gorilla tape the gun(s) to themselves and having to rip them off violently to gain access to them LOL

I lived in phoenix most my life and open carried almost everytime I left the house since turning 21 and had never had an issue. Why should we the people not be able to carry how we see fit???

I am all for open carry even though I probably would not do it..........except in the summertime....when its PITA to conceal it.
There would probably be a period of time when folks would be nervous seeing 8 people in a restaurant of 100 with a hog leg on their hip.
BUt over time folks get used to it- LIke $3.00+ gasoline

I agree. With my skinny frame the options to carry would be a dramatic change. Usually I carry my Glock 23, but during the summer it is a real pain to conceal. I finally picked up a pocket .380 which is great, but I really prefer the option of full size.

Really? I see people wearing firearms on their hips at restaurants all the time, and no one seems to even notice. Of course they're police officers, but not all are wearing the traditional uniform (polo shirts seem to be popular these days) and if you don't pay attention to the logo on the shirt or the badge on the belt, they look pretty much like anyone else wearing 5.11 cargo pants and tan baseball caps.

I don't think the reaction would be as great as some people think, just as when concealed carry was allowed and a few were predicting gunfights on every street corner. Considering how many people wear cell phones, blackberries and other things on their belts, I would almost wager than the vast majority of the general public wouldn't even notice it...

I do agree in that I wouldn't OC often either, but I think we should have the option and since it isn't an issue in 44 other states (yes, we are one of only six states that don't allow it since Oklahoma's new law goes into effect this Thursday), it shouldn't be one here in Texas!

    It's embarrassing that we don't!

How does it look for Texas now that Ok. Passed the law? I would open carry on my property and all day at work since I'm out in the oil field. I would conceal it to go to dinner.

You can already open carry on your own property.

Will your employer let you carry at work? I thought oil field jobs were fairly strict about that kind of stuff.

I CC during the winter months but would like the option to OC when its warm outside. Just saying.
Looks like we will be surrounded by or contiguous States with OC Laws on the books and Texas will be lagging behind.
Right or wrong will always be a debate. But at the end of the day it should be our call. Just Saying.

So what is the current status of open carry legislation? Any bills been filed? Anyone planning on filing for open carry? Any public official statements at all lately?

I'm all for the right to OC if it ever passed in TX.....probably would not very often but still want to right to if I see fit. Just hope if it passes that TX business owners do not go the way some OK business owners have. Born and raised in OK and visit very often. Soon after their OC went into effect I visited my home town and found many business owners had posted new NO FIREARMS/NO GUNS signs on their doors. These same businesses had no such signs when only Concealed Carry was allowed. Are their signs enforceable? Probably not but hard to determine this and be 100% sure by searching on their on line sites about OC. They have no cut and dry 30.06 signage as does TX and seems there is a lot of gray areas.

I'd just want them to have separate 30.06 signs for Concealed vs Open Carry - and have to post both to completely deny carry on the premises. It also gives the property owner more rights / choice as to how someone can carry on their property.

I agree that some business owners will tolerate concealed carry simply because no one knows it's there versus open carry where it's very apparent, although I had not heard that was the case in Oklahoma when OC started being allowed.

I doubt if OC were to occur here that there would be a requirement for a separate sign, most likely the legislation would be incorporated into the current 30.06 regulation. That could be a bad thing, as you've stated; but I would hope that once the general public here got exposed and used to the idea of open carry, it would be more widely accepted.

    Cheers! M2

Only problem I find with open carry (and correct me if I'm wrong) but doesn't the gun have to be unloaded? I remember reading some stuff on it saying the clip can't be in the pistol and the police would randomly stop them and be able to check if it's loaded or not. Maybe it was just in one state.

Personally I'd support open carry if your gun could be ready to go. I believe it would deter a criminal from doing anything around you.

California had a law where you could open carry but only if unloaded. Not applicable in TX. Here, if passed, we could carry with the gun loaded and ready to roll.

Such a proposal (open carry unloaded pistols only) would never pass muster in Texas. California, maybe; but not Texas!

Whatever state does have such ridiculous requirements would be one that OC'ing in wouldn't be worth the trouble.

There are numerous pros and cons to OC, I actually used to be more against it than for but changed my stance a while back. I still would be unlikely to do so if allowed, but it would be nice to have the option!

    Cheers! M2

p.s. Congrats on getting your user name changed, but now I think you are a University of South Florida fan!

Haha, it's better than what I had, I'm sure many will agree. Not a huge USF fan though ;)

I was in Walmart OCing in the toy isle. Didn't happen to me.

I find such paranoia and hoplophobia the product of someone who worries too much and lives very little.

That's why there are retention holsters. It would be extremely difficult for anyone to pull my gun out of my holster because their hand cannot be easily positioned to push the "button" to release the gun. They would also have to know the holster to know where to release the gun.
