So they will let us pick up a million pieces of a blown up caddy but you cant pick up your brass?
Well, we did kind of bring the Caddy AND blow it into a millions pieces so .....

Folks like YG said, they were not exactly enforcing the 'don't pick up brass' rule so let's not ruin the good times we have at Hicksville over something that is relatively speaking minor. Perhaps for our next meet they will suspend the policy on that day. I will gladly ask the Hicks about it so feel free to remind me.

The rule stinks, but Im sure JD will let us slide. I hope anyway. As mentioned, its worth the good time for him letting us patron the place for a day. I dont shoot much anyway when Im there. lol

Agreed. I plan to attend a meet-up at Hicksville sometime in the future and as long as I know ahead of time, I'll plan appropriately and not grouse.

Actually, for me, this rule at this range is a good thing. It means I have a mental excuse to limit my gear to stuff that takes 9mm, .223, or 7.62x39, the rounds for which I have aluminum- or steel-cased ammo. That'll make packing easier.

    Looking for the bright side,

    Ben

They have a sign at one of my local ranges that says "please do not pick up brass". I assumed that meant don't go picking up all the brass. Never thought that was a prohibition against keeping my own. I guess a guy could get one of those brass catchers.

I could see not picking up others.
You reminded me ... Anamelia said a major factor in starting the policy was some guy emptied the brass buckets on the pistol range into his bag. Not sure if he made off with it but all it takes is one turd to ruin the punch.

Ok, I want to be very clear. I do NOT want to make this a Hicksville bashing thread. I did notice a couple if things that Jeremy might be able to politely mention to them.

Brass pickup has been mentioned. It's kind if a big deal for me, maybe not so much for others. That's fine, we all have different interests or whatever(couldn't think of the right word)

The second thing was range supervision. It seems JD had some other matters to tend to that day which is understandable but I did notice some things going on that should have been corrected.

It could have been an isolated incident but I see a big chance for something bad to happen if it is a common occurrence.

I like the range and I'm bringing these things up because I don't want to see the range go downhill or get shut down because someone gets hurt.

Let it be known this was my first visit to the Hicksville gun range.

When I saw the signs reading 'Dot not pick up brass' I asked if I could pick up my own brass
The gal told me no and that it was a fairly new policy. I will respect and obey all gun range
policies, I didn't like it but my wife and I had come to shoot and meet some members of TGT.
It is not everyday that I can get out ant enjoy shooting and meeting new friends.

This weekend, I have plans already in place. Starting after that, I will try to get up there Saturday and Sundays to keep an extra eye out. I know things do happen there that keeps them preoccupied and they can't really afford a payroll. I'll try to help correct the supervision thing personally, until they are able to get things back on track.

    1/2" steel shot with .223 / 5.56 rounds at 100yds
Any marks where the paint was simply blemished are either .22TCM or .45ACP handguns, also at 100yds.

As usual I had fun and enjoyed the day.

Acesn8's and wife: It was nice to meet you two and thanks for letting me shoot your guns. That is a cool lever action rifle! I hope you get to feeling better. I hope you come back for future Hicksville meets, despite the brass policy.

Shotgun Jeremy: Thank you for affirming that I am in fact, a wimp, when it comes to higher calibers (sarcasm)

Angelia: Thank you for the ride and good conversation. Your daughter was a trooper, and graciously listened to my advice/talk on boys at dinner.

Glockster and Younggun: Nice seeing you all again.

Ladygun: Even though you were not there, I used your shotgun a lot. I enjoyed it, thanks. See you at the next one!

I heard the same story from someone else and that they did make off with it. Like you said, it just takes one...

    Ben,

You will likely spend a lot of time talking and socializing, thereby saving ammo! :p

The next big meet will likely be in October, I hope you can join us.

I was really impressed with how those plates absorbed the bullets. It makes me wonder if you could layer that for protection from fire at closer distances. Kinda along the lines of vehicle protection for a prepper.
