My wife says that about me..........too many flashlights. I have my favorites. Interestingly enough, one of my favorites was fairly cheap. It is LED and takes a 9v battery that lasts over a year. The cool thing about it is that it always emits a very small amount of light [even when off]. That lets you find it no matter how dark it is, like when the power goes out. It has a hi/low/strobe/off button. When my eyes are adjusted to the dark, I don't even have to turn it on.....it is bright enough to use. That is what I call utilitarian.......and we can always find it in the dark because we keep it facing up. You just look for the beam on the ceiling.

That sounds like a very interesting light. What brand/model is it?

I have a Surefire 6P that served me perfectly for a 1 year tour in Iraq. I have it mounted on my AR right now. I keep a similar version LED light bedside.

I have the same trait in common with Calvary Doc; cheap. The Element K2 is a good light and extemely cheap. Durable; can't say but it is bright and throws the light pretty well.

I kind of have a flashlight fetish, so I own several different flashlights, of course the obligatory Surefire & Fenix, but others as well...:banghead:

Why do gun related flashlights cost so much money? What is it about them that is so expensive, compared to other LED flashlights.

There are some quality reasons I am sure, they are built to be a lot tougher than your normal flashlight, but it also has a lot to do with the fact that it is a recreational product and people dont mind spending the extra money so they charge it. Go to the co-op and buy a bag of feed corn. Walk over to the next aisle and pick up a bag of "deer corn" and its $2 higher for the same thing. Pick up a tube of grease at Home Depot for $5, go pick up the same tube of grease labeled "boat trailer grease" and it will be 3 times that much.

I'd like to get a nice flashlight, but I'm not quite sold on shelling out over $100 for one yet. I need to do more looking around before I decide to get one. We carry Surefire and Streamlight at work, so I can get a fair deal on one, but it's still not on the top of my list.
