Last time I was in McBrides they had some really fair prices on some used handguns and new rifles. Cabela's had some fair prices on their tactical rifles last time I was there. They had some interesting used rifles and shotguns. They also have an assortment of police trade Sig p226s and p229s (DAK).

Personally, I feel like McBrides is totally hit or miss. Sometimes they have good prices on things and sometimes they seem to creep up faster than anyone else. I have been treated really rudely there on more than one occasion but I try not to take it personally. They sometimes get swamped with idiots and I'm sure that since I'm younger and look like every other college aged youth in Austin they assume a certain amount of ignorance from me. My advice is go when they aren't busy and the sales person has time to talk to you. Also, I like to stop in as often as possible as they seem to have ammo on sale constantly. I think they are still 2 boxes per customer per caliber though.

McBrides pissed me off about 15 years ago. I tried going there to buy a safe. Seems like if you werent a cop or a cop or related to the owner they treat you like a dumbass. Fortuanately I don't hold a grudge. So I haven't been back since.

Good call guys. Thanks for the advice. McBride's was actually the first shop I went into to look for a gun. I didn't buy anything but I did like it. As far as AGL, when I went in there, it was the height of the gun scare. The selection wasn't that great (which I don't blame them for) nor did it appear that they had too much ammo. Being a Williamson County resident, I am always looking for a great local store for gun purchases and ammo.

I was recently in Guns Plus in Georgetown and saw that they had a great amount of ammo which is always nice. Federal 9mm Luger FJM Target rounds were going for 14.95 a box. For a fairly novice gun owner, I was wondering if you all had anything on that.

I doubt it is your age. I have had the same experience multiple times in there and I am older than any of the people working there. Sort of the same rude and indifferent CS I see at Precision Camera also.

But I will say I had a decent experience in McBrides the other day so I might move them higher on my list of LGS's. For new firearms, however, GT is pretty much my first choice if it is something they carry. I have always been treated well in there and the prices are good.

When I stopped in there (in August) the selection was rather poor and overpriced and the guy wasn't all that personable/helpful!

I like heritage, not much selection but the guy is nice and stuff seems reasonable!

I have fallen for GT tho....most the guys are cool, selection is great and prices are just unbeatable!

I dont think i have ever read that before. I was treated entirely unprofessionally in there. Funny part is i was a frequent customer that actually defended the shop to others. Id always heard of how the guy there (not the gunsmith) is a total jerk to customers. I figured it was them because i never had an issue. Then i did and i gave them the chance to make it right but they wouldnt.

To me that is the kind of gunshop and service that both give the industry a bad name and turn people off of guns. I havent been back since.
