357 mag question

Is it ok to fire 38 spl +P in a 357 magnum? I am having a hell of a time finding 357 mag defense ammo, but 38 spl +P seems to be around.

Absolutely!

Absolutely. Same bullet, the only difference is the .357 Mag is longer and with much higher velocity and pressure. All the wheelgun shooters I know (me included) fire a steady diet of .38 Special in our .357's.

That's what I load in my GP100 when it's out of the safe and on duty. Only time I load full house .357s is when I'm headed into the woods.

Yep, the pressure on the +p 38 should be well within the range of a .357 Mag revolver.

FWIW, Natchez has .357 Gold Dots , and Ammo to go has Federal HydraShoks.

Thanks again guys. Picked up some +P locally today. I didn't realize how hard it was to find 357 MAG until I started looking. I found 40, 45 and 9 all day, but 357....I guess I never noticed until i wanted some.

Just remember to clean the chambers extra good or you'll get sticking cases when/if you go back to .357.

Is't that the case. All you can find is ammo you aren't looking for.

The gander mountain at hwy6 and 290 and the walmart near me. However, when I went back to walmart later that day the 45 they had was gone. Imagine that!!

Statement on 357 Mag....

When I pack my 357, I use 158 grain, DJHP. Awesome round, but the recoil is significant since my 357 is a 2 in.
