Is it legal to carry a concealled handgun on a passenger train within the state of Texas - if of course you have a CHL?? For instance if travelling between Houston and Alpine, do you have to check your handgun in your luggage or can you carry concealled?? Is the train system governed by the same laws as air transportation?? Thinking about taking the night train from Houston to Alpine, just to look over the town and surrounding area for a few days. Instead of flying (or driving) out, thought it might be nice to take a train. Would appreciate any info anyone here can provide.

    My friend,

From what I have studied, it is not covered specifically. Train transportation does not have anything to do with air transportation. One needs to check if 30.06.

I am not a lawyer, but I have studied the handbook. I would not think the train system would be defined as federal property.

Others may be able to clarify. I have not taken a train for a long time, and particularly since I have had a CHL.

Amtrak specifically forbids the carrying or transportation of any firearm on their trains, even in luggage. A bill is currently being considered to allow firearms to be transported in the same manner as on airplanes.

It seems odd that Amtrak or any passenger train company would not allow any firearms on their trains. Seems to me, the people that are intent on doing harm don't follow their targets policies or laws. This means the only unarmed people will be the victims...err passengers....on the train. It's not like you can take over a train and drive it into anything, but just the same, it would be nearly impossible to get help or stop and jump off.
