I have an opportunity to pick up a Walther P22 for $209. The plan was always to pick up a Ruger SR22 for a 22 pistol. They're are extremely well fit for a child's hand. It would basically be a range toy for my kids and of course the zombie apocalypse. This deal is basically only good for a couple days. The P22 is $100 off regular price and 25% extra right now. The SR22 is still around $284 because it only has the percent off but only $20 off regular. The video reviews I have seen ranged from calling the P22 junk to the necessary survivalists gun. Does anyone have experience with one or both? Again, this is pretty time sensitive if you could help.

I cannot recommend the P22...there is a reason it is inexpensive and heavily discounted......

The little SR22 will serve you well....for many years to come.....

Nothing wrong with a Browning but they can be difficult to charge a first round for small shooters...

    jmho...

    and what is kindergarten?

I think the main thing bothering me about the SR22 is the fact that it hates most ammo and only takes the more expensive stuff which seems against why I even have 22s.

We have had one as rental gun for years, and it eats anything fed to it.....I did have change the recoil spring after probably 40K rounds, but it is our most rented pistol....

I've owned several Rugers and a Buck Mark.

I'd also disagree with this. I've shot all kinds of ammo - including sub-sonics - through my SR22. It works great, and is a fun little pistol. A good friend at work has the P22 and had to really work on it to make it reliable - not the first time I've heard that.

I have both with admittedly low round counts on each. I like the Walther better in my limited experience. I guess I need to shoot it more and see why it sucks. Are you going to suppress it?

Based on what I'm reading here, if the $80 is a big deal then get the Walther. If not, get the Ruger.

I bought a P22 as a suppressor host years ago. Always worked great, except I let it sit unused a long time without cleaning after shooting several hundred rounds suppressed through it.
The firing pin gunked up/stuck. Had to be cleaned, but worked great after that...

The latest batches of P22's seem to work fine, reportedly.

This may be the case.....when they first came out we sold some and almost all were sent back for warranty work, so I quit selling them.....my opinion is based on old data/experience....

I also said, on this very forum, several times, that, if you want a Walther 22, stay away ,from the P22s.
