Baseless supposition? Hardly. Every scenario in my mind is possible. Or maybe you don't frequent some of the places I do.

In regards to people being shot, then having their gun taken, there are almost no incidents. There are however many incidents of people taking OC guns from the owner and NOT shooting them. So I guess if you want to split hairs, there's that. You can argue situational awareness all day, but I can assure you those people felt they had their scene under control.

The situation that makes me not OC is where a guy comes into a restaurant or other venue and intends to rob it. He sees an OC and shoots him first before robbing it. No way to know how many times that has happened.
What restaurant incident are you referring to? I'm just not hearing or reading of those incidents, but I'm sure someone lifting their shirt will probably get attention too. As I said, you can carry however you like and make whatever scenarios you like.

I posted a list of some, take a look.

Two articles for the same avoidable situation that the OCer put themselves into.

Two about open carrying without a retention holster.

Some semblance of common sense must be used when carrying, that’s for certain. Letting a gun hang out of your pocket, then get stolen, is just retarded.

If you’re gonna dangle valueable items in front of thieves, it’s no surprise that they’ll be stolen.

I don’t believe any responsible OCer would be in any of these situations.

Look, if I get robbed of my OC gun while taking a nap at 2am on a bus stop in front of a crackhouse, then it’s because I’m an idiot. And not necessarily because OC is a bad idea.

OK, take away "many." But it does happen, regardless of the frequency.

And I knew the "it happens but....." would be thrown out there. It happens, regardless of how or why. That's what matters to me. I'm old, fat and slow. Its entirely possible I have poor situational awareness. So its possible I would be one of those "it happens but....."

Like someone said earlier, you have to manage the risks that are important to you.

Having happened five(?)* times is not the same as being able to state that "it happens". It's more accurate to say "it has happened a few times". But hey, that's just me. It's not like there's a groundswell of these takeaways happening.

*I say five, but it looks like some of those are duplicates.

The cop argument has zero to do with Joe OC.

Lots of people have attacked cops and tried to take their gun. But its not relevant to our discussion. I'm talking about average Joe who just happens to have a gun on his hip.

Who in the HELL "just happens to have a gun on his hip" ? No one, that's who!

Your life must be a living hell worrying about all the things that "could" happen. You can't be cowering in fear in the basement because there "could" be radon in there. You can't go outside because you "could" be hit by lightning, or be stung by a killer bee, or attacked by rabid ducks. You can't drive because you "could" be involved in an accident.

Damn man, how the hell do you get through the day?

Don’t you carry a gun for what “could” happen? Damn man, how do you get through the day?

Living hell, indeed. You cant imagine.

Radon, rabid dicks and ducks, lightening, killer bees, driving. None of those worry me.

I do have a mild concern that if I OC'ed, that I could be shot first by some idiot wanting to rob a store or restaurant I frequent. However, absent an OC, I'm just an old, fat, non-threatening, unassuming guy who likes pie.

And frankly, being underestimated has worked out really well for me. As Clint Eastwood once said, "a man has to know his limitations."

I always assume that others are not properly prepared, because they rarely are.
