I ditched Suddenlink's 1Gig service for the the Co-ops fiber internet and it was one of the greatest decisions I have ever made. It has been just over a year now, and my internet has gone out once in that time, and it was for less than 5 minutes. I have 500 mbps up and down speed, and it measures between 472 and 496 on speedtest.net. The best upload speed I ever got with Suddenlink was 17 mbps but was usually about 3.5 mbps. By the time I took that through the company's VPN, I couldn't even present my screen during a conference call.Kinda exciting here today. Our Electric Co-op has been running fiber down our main road for the last couple of weeks. I was a little doubtful they'd hook us in, as we're about 1/4 mile off that road (after thinking about this, MOST of their potential customers are at least as far off the road). But Friday, there was a crew running the braided steel "carrier" wire right up to our power pole. It was getting late, so they said they'd be out today to run the actual fiber. We have been suffering with HughesNet for months (yes, I have bitched about them more than once here. Sorry). I think the fiber will be a huge improvement and costs less.
Here's the end of the cable, lying in our yard, with a power pole behind it.
