This is what is so sad about any minimum wage. The vast majority of young people, no matter their education, have no skills and are only worth low wages. But those jobs are where young people learn how jobs get done, how businesses make money, and the value of showing up on time. Then they quickly develop valuable skills, and are worth a lot more money. If business can’t hire them because they are artificially expensive, many young people won’t have that opportunity, and never partipate in the growth and success of our magnificent country. Not only that, but missing the ideas and energy that a young person might bring will hurt businesses long term.Lonesome Dove,
I do NOT think that there will be a MAJOR price increase for fast food (PROBABLY few or NO 10 dollar cheeseburgers!) but rather that there will be a LOT of LOW SKILLED & YOUNG current workers who will lose their job, to be replaced by "automation"/robots.
yours, satx
Well maybe we should all look at this in a positive way , it maybe for the better after all. Like no2gates said if if robots can build car than making burgers should be a snap, at least robots may get your order right !
And the drinks are mostly ice with a small amount of soda water.I agree. I think most of the profit at these places is the soda they sell and not the food. Don't quote me on that as I have no true stats about where the profit is. I do believe it will mean less jobs. Look at all the self checkout at the box stores. I can checkout and pay with my smart phone.

Here's the bigger picture issue I see going down the road. Let's say they start using robots to make burgers, where are all those people who were employed before going to work now?
Then they take it a bit further, why not build houses with robots, or roads?
Now you're talking about 30 to 50% unemployment.
Where does it stop? What CAN'T robots do, except for prostitution and maybe psychoanalysis?
Universal basic income
The left as usual hasn't a clue of the upcoming 'unintended consequences' of their minimum wage increase, but boy, do they 'FEEL' good...
...and UBI means...Urinary Beer Injury or ...?
That's where you're completely wrong. They know exactly what they are doing - Destroying the American economy with everything they do. That is what they have been planning for decades, by getting rid of the Middle class, and only having two classes of citizens - The rich that they can control by taxes and the poor that they can control with hand outs.
My daughter is an assistant manager at Walmart. They took their cashiers to some stupid high wage a few years ago and I warned her they wont be spending triple or double on cashiers, they will cut cashiers.Idiots demanding $15 an hour for minimum wage are pricing themselves right out of a job.

They have just a few cashiers now and lots of self checkouts. And they keep reorganizing and cutting controllable expenses, i.e. labor, cause walmart dont phuck around and waste money on crap like that.
They have stupid robots that scan outs now allowing them to cut department managers work load. The department managers were like great! Till the reorganized and cut department managers. Lol
Better economic lessons than any college level courses.
15 dollar an hour jobs are bullshit unless you earn that rate. Ofcourse the left calls that racist. Let those phuckers move to France.
Exactly right. No way the Mom and Pop restaurants can afford to get a series of NS-5's to replace the workers they can't afford to pay.Exactly. All they need a human cashier for are to approved sales on alcohol and tobacco. And I'll bet they are working on some type of system that can scan a ID to verify age to then cut out another couple cashiers as well.
When I first heard about the first fast food places putting in systems to reduce human interaction of taking an order, I knew that they were preparing for something on this order of higher wages for minimum wage workers.
I suspect that most fast food places can or will adapt, having fewer and fewer employees on the payroll. Plus computers and robots, never need a break or call in sick, or are late to work!
Now the real losers in this happening are the smaller restaurants that are barely existing on thread now. If they drive minimum wages up to $15 an hour, they are the ones that are really going to suffer for it. Many that did survive from last years pandemic probably won't survive this.
You heard about the shit storm AOC caused when she tried to force a "living wage" for wait staff and bartenders and others working for tips in NYC. They were all mind your own phucking business cause they make much more than that per hour and, if they are smart, dont pay taxes on most of that cash.Exactly. All they need a human cashier for are to approved sales on alcohol and tobacco. And I'll bet they are working on some type of system that can scan a ID to verify age to then cut out another couple cashiers as well.
