    In the woods...
I'm a fan of the .22 magnum, but my application is much different than yours and usually involves distances of 100 yards or less.

It is much more authoritative on turtles, beaver, coyotes, skunks, etc, than the long rifle. When I'm after squirrels or rabbits I fall back to the .22 lr.

    What set up you got?
    Glass?
    Accuracy?
Savage 93 TRR I think. It a bolt in a tacticool stock. Vortex Diamondback glass and I use a suppressor. It shoots about quarter sized groups at 100 with Hornady 17gn VMAX. It didn't like the 20gn bullets at all.

    What X is the glass?
I'm thinking of going 12X or even 14X

I say quarter sized groups but sometimes they open up a bit. I think think the round is a little temperamental, maybe it's just mass produced rimfire ammo. I saw a video where a guy pulled the bullets and replaced them and it was really consistent then.

It'll be minute of prairie dog at 150 yards anyway.

    Or bobwhite at 300.
