    1911 carry rigs - All .45acp

    Rock Island 5"
    Springfield LW Champion G.I. 4.25"
    Springfield Range Officer Compact 4"
Kimber Ultra Refined Carry Pistol 3"

Working guns so the patina ain't real purty.
The Kimber is Cerakoted Blue Titanium when I noticed a little of the famous Kimber Rust on the slide from pocket carry.
The other three are parkerized and show their age when you get any closer than this photo.

    Thanks for looking.

I understand that the 1911 is still popular but I am so burned out on them. I sold my only 1911 along with all my other single action pistols as I primarily collect double action pistols now. Quite frankly I am surprised such an old design is still as popular as it is with everything else that has been released since then. Hopefully many of the older double action pistols that are slowly disappearing like the S&W autos can make a strong comeback sometime in the future. In the meantime you 1911 owners have a lot to choose from and plenty of spare parts to keep your pistols running and modified however you want them. It's a good time to be a 1911 collector.

I cut my eyeteeth in the military on the 1911. I couldn't live without a few in the collection. I have a Hardball match Gun from the SA Armory Custom shop back in the early 90s. It is a primo firearm. I have another SA 1911 that started out life as a GI issue model. Sent it to the SA Armory Custom shop at about the same time. It is for serious social work. The reason the 9mm pistols have gained popularity is the magazine capacity and less recoil. However, I have an SA XDM 4.5 inch that holds 13 rounds of .45 ACP goodness in them. It points well and has a sweet trigger on it. I also have an FN Tactical .45 that holds 15 rounds of .45 ACP goodness. My Glock 40 in 10mm also holds 15 in the magazine with a 6.02 " barrel. That is also a sweet shooter. Those are keepers. so Why the single stack 1911 is ammo limited other .45 ACP pistols don't have this problem. I plan on building a .45 ACP and 10MM AR 15 pistol the 9mm is built. A double stack 1911 is in the future also.

I have 3 10mm 1911's. Well, correction, 2 of them are 2011 double stack's. The single stack is a commander length Bobtail. All 3 are hand built 1 off customs. This is the allure of the 1911/2011. You have so many open paths that can be followed.

Added some GI Colt parts to make it more authentic: checkered safety and slide stop, Colt stocks, checkered mainspring housing and milled trigger. Mucho betta.

Also installed a GI firing pin, spring, firing pin stop and extractor. Almost there...

Very nice touches.......is the slide serialized to the frame?

    Milled triggers are awesome, imho...

Every year I get a Gun Digest daily calendar for my desk at work. I actually keep all the 1911 pics from it. I have quite the collection going, I guess there is just something about Browning's design that tantalizes me...

No...Colt stopped the slide serialization mid-war, late '43 or early '44, I think. This pistol is supposed to mimic a '42 Colt, but obviously there's a few things that weren't done. Nice for what it is, though. Definitely beats an Auto Ordnance GI model.
