We did a NV shoot at the Impazt Zone using some new I2 slip-on units. and a Gen 2 DNVWS. The 3rd Gen slip-on was very usable and allowed me to make hits on a 6" steel plate at 200 yards with illumination from a PEQ2.
We also used the Surefire KM2 and 3 vampire heads on weapon mounted lights along with a handheld Surefire Vampire to illuminate the range and targets with IR light. While they are no where near as powerful as the Torch from TNVC, they are adequate out to 100 yards as can be seen in the video.
We had various weapons ranging from a 6.8 AR-15 with a PVS-14 - 3X magnifier - EOTECH combo to a 6.8mm SPC AR w/ a D740 DNVWS (BOTH using an AAC SCAR-H SD suppressor), a 6.8 AR with a VITAL-2 (using an AAC M4-2000), a 5.56 AR-15 with a Gemtech G5 and a Leupold scope (we used the slip on unit) and a Larue OBR with a Night force and a tactical Solutions .30 can.
Marshall, the owner of www.PrimaryArms.com supplied the Gen 3 slip on and the Gen 2 device for evalution. Thank you Marshall!
The general consensus was that teh Gen 2 device would allow you to shoot hogs at no more than 100 yards and you had better not be shooting hogs in a herd of cattle. A calf and a hog look a lot alike.
