What bullet do you use for hog hunting with 300BO supers?

I normally just load 110Vmax supers, thinking a maybe a 150gr softpoint or similar.

For anything other than a head shot, I've not been happy with the 110gr Vmax (after all, it is a varmint round). The Barnes 110gr Tac-TX and Rem Hog Hammer (130 gr Barnes TSX) have done pretty well for me. I do like your suggestion of a 150gr softpoint

Yeah, I didn't want to take the Vmax for hogs. I keep them loaded for coyotes and other varmints.

This will be the first time I planned to use it for anything larger.

I've used the TSX in .308 for hog and was very happy with the results, wasn't sure how it would perform at the lower velocity though.

Try the 125 SST. It's a quick opening and controlled expansion designed for deer sized game.

I would not suggest a traditional softpoint for say 308,30-06. They are designed for speeds well in excess of what the 300 blk runs at.

    To each his own.

My neighbor kills them with a .22 magnum using ordinary factory FMJ's.

Yes, all under 100 yard shots, but they go down for the count.

I've killed them with 5.56 62 gr. fmj's / and .17 caliber fmj's hitting them with head shots. Mine too are under 100 yard shots.

Some claim their tough sob's, but not in my experience.

For me, the toughest thing about them is cleaning and butchering, which for me is an arduous, long winded chore as I'm somewhat a perfectionist when it comes to processing game, including fish.

Lately, I've been using a Havalon to do the job of skinning and butchering. Yes, I can sharpen a knife, but why bother when you change out a blade for a fresh, super sharp one. Most especially while in the process.

Stopped by Cabelas. No 150gr except FMJ, not 130gr TSX, no 110gr Barnes. Picked up a box of 125gr SSTs to try.

They did have some Tac-TX already loaded, but in to cheap the pay $1.50 a shot.

The OP was asking about 300BLK, not rimfire. He will be hunting with his 300BLK rifle, not his rimfire rifle.

The whole "I kill all my hogs with a .22" thing is played out.

Really curious to see how this round performs for you (even though you're rolling your own and I don't reload). The 139gr SST is my favorite round in 7mm-08 for hogs. I hit a smallish hundred pounder in the vitals at 425 yds earlier this year with that round and the hog was DRT.

Here's the exit wound damage done by the SST on a 40 pounder (estimated weight, obviously...LOL) I shot at 45 yards....

I find them all over on the ground every time I shoot my .223.
