While some agencies and people are downsizing to 9mm I am upsizing to .40 S&W! :D

SIG P226 Stainless Elite in .40 S&W new in box. This is the main .40 S&W on my list and it just came in today. Steel slide + frame just the way I like it. I will also be eventually getting the drop in .357 SIG barrel so that will be another option with this pistol. I took the wood grips off and put on some new Hogue rubber grips as I prefer them even though the original wood does look nicer.

Smith and Wesson 4006 in near mint condition with original docs and matching original serialized box. This pistol looks like it might have had a few hundred rounds fired through it at most then it was cleaned and stored away only to be recently taken out of storage and sold to me.

Smith and Wesson 4006TSW. The infamous CHP pistol. This one is in excellent condition with some very minor holster wear on it. Whomever was issued this 4006TSW apparently had plenty of desk duty as this pistol has a lot less wear on it then many other 4006TSW's I have seen.

My personal choice is the 40 SW. Those look really nice. I think I need to start paying more attention to some of the LEO cast-offs.

I had a Glock Model 23 years ago, but...Glock. Before I retired, my officers carried Glock 22s, and I carried a 4 inch S&W Model 686. The department recently traded in the Glock 22s for Glock 17s.

What was the reasoning for transitioning to 9mm from 40cal? Certainly can't only be the ability to carry one or two more rounds.

My understanding is that some folks found they couldn't handle the 40 well enough but could do fine with the 9mm. In addition, article after article keeps telling us that modern bullet design is closing the gap in effectiveness. I personally look at it like modern bullet tech isn't only used on 9mm ammo, which means a 40 using similar design parameters and materials would still be more effective. That's just my opinion.

That's always been my thought, but have been told it's not correct.
Never been explained to my satisfaction, though...

Same here. I haven't been convinced the 40 isn't more effective than the 9mm, assuming the user is proficient with it. Of course, for those having difficulty controlling the 40, the 9mm would probably be better. I'd like to see statistics showing that the 9mm is performing better in the field (not simply at the range). I sincerely hope accuracy under stress is actually improved.

I'm in line with your thinking. I've never gotten a .40, simply because I don't want another caliber. I wouldn't call myself recoil sensitive, but the difference between 9mm & .40 seems pretty modest to me. Y'all just rock on with them!
