I am having a hard time finding local 45, but the Academy at Military and 410 has some Monarc brass cased 45 left. I bought 5 boxes for like 90 bucks. Just in case anyone on this side of town is looking.

The Wal-Mart on Rigsby & 410 is loaded up with WW White Box 100 round value packs at about $32.97 + tax.

They've got plenty of nines, thirty-eights, and forties, too.

    Go figure?

    Be well.

Any one of you wanna sell me some? I'm too young to buy handgun ammo in stores, but i'm old enough to buy other more powerful guns and ammo in stores...

$16 ... yikes ... you guys know you can reload a box of 50 rounds of .45 for under $10 right?

    Not so fast Skipper:

When you do the math, it breaks out to something like this:

Home cast lead bullets with lead obtained at no charge from a tire shop & range pick-up brass:

    Bullet: $0
    Primer: $0.035
    Brass: $0
    Propellant Charge: $0.015

    Cost per round: $.05
    Cost per 50 rounds: $2.50

Commercial 230 gr LRN + once (or more times) fired brass:

    Bullet: $0.15
    Primer: $0.035
    Brass: $0
    Propellant Charge: $0.015

    Cost per round: $0.20
    Cost per 50 rounds: $10.00

Commercial 230 grain FMJ, Virgin Brass:

    Bullet: $0.19
    Primer: $0.035
    Brass: $0.175
    Propellant Charge: $0.015

    Cost per round: $0.415
    Cost per 50 rounds: $20.75

So, when we start to figure the true cost of new or re-loaded ammo, we have to consider all the variables. Sadly, there is no way to put a dollar value on the time we take to roll our own. Some of us are retired and measure their time by TBTB (time between beers), others have to balance their time with work, family, and other obligations.

Yes, your $10.00 box of .45 Auto Ammo is doable, but at what other cost?

    Be well.

That particular Walmart usually does a good job of keeping ammo stocked. It might be the clientele, but for whatever reason I have always had good luck finding ammo there!

Culebra and 1604 is usually OK as well, but not as good as the store out in Boerne.

    Cheers! M2

Still not having any luck at Culebra, but I did get some Brass Monarch (really did well in my gun) at Academy on Military and 410, Potranco and 1604, and the Walmart at 1604 and Potranco. Bass Pro only had hollow points this weekend. But I'm up about 600rds now.

Yes time is a huge factor in my not reloading. I have all the equipment and dies, but am very limited on the time to do it! Eventually, I will have time to start reloading again.

I am lucky enough to be right on the edge of the city. A few years ago my local walmart had WWB(45 auto)100cts for 19.99 ea. They also had blazer brass(45 auto) for 9.99/50. Obviously I bought up a bunch back then. Lately, they've got tula ammo, RWS and federal at bottom dollar prices. I haven't been looking for 45 auto but I'll price shop the next time I go. My closest academy always has plenty of monarch 45 auto at 16.99/50. So far the best prices I have seen on the RWS is from weapons world. I do reload but don't cast my own. IME the 200gr SWC outshoots all other projectiles that I have put through my 1911. The FMJ version by Hornady (CT 200gr SWC) is my favorite bullet but it's rare to find em' for less than 16 cents a piece. Reloading is pretty time consuming and better measured in TBTB, if you calculate man hrs, it costs a lot more than $10 a box.

Isn't RWS the brand SIG uses to function test all of their new guns and then enclose the target with it?

As far as reloading goes, you save a lot of money, in the long run, but there is quite a git of start up cost and equipment. Then there is the time factor. A buddy of mine and I sat down and calculated how much it would cost to reload vs the commercial reloads I was buying. It was going to take YEARS before the reloading paid for the initial investment. YMMV

Skip, just swung through the Wally world at 1604/Culebra, had at least 8 100 ct boxes of the WWB 45 that I could see on the shelf. They look to be stocked up on everything if you want to make a run up there this evening!

Not sure if you make it up this way but cheaper than dirt in ft worth has a good supply on hand and also allows you to purchase from the catalog at good prices. Also when I am having issues finding anything local I have used ussammo.com a few times with happy results. I am constantly picking up whitebox when I make it to wally world - better to have it and not need it...
