Anyone ever heard of such a thing? I have not. Seems like there ought to be something like that out there. The rim "could" be a small problem but not one that could not be overcome.
There was once upon a time a round known as the .45 Winchester Magnum.
Basically it was a .45 Colt length .45acp.
It never caught on. The only factory gun that I knew it chambered in was the Wildey semi auto pistol. These were hellish expensive so they were never popular.
There was briefly available a USGI .30Carbine conversion known as the Thumper. One man operation.
The guy who made them would only use USGI carbine receivers as they were forged. The commercial made carbine receivers were too soft.
He also swapped out the wooden stock for a composite stock as the recoil would crack the wood stock.
ETA: The was/is another semi auto pistol chambered in the .45Win mag.
The LAR Grizzly.
It looks a lot like an oversized 1911.
Again, hellishly expensive so quite rare.
Thompson/Center made barrels for the Contender in .45Win mag.
