I'm figuring I should start thinking about at least looking into this as my second grandson is moving up fast into the "doing what pepaw does in Tomball" phase of my life.

With three of us shooting rifle and once-fired cases are no longer an option that I see often I'm looking at repairing my brass.

What are my options on this?

    Thanks

You bring up a range questions.
Why are you considering annealing is #1?
Are you precision shooting with high grade brass?
Are mention no availability of once fired brass-that usually means mixed brass.
Virtually all brass anneals differently (temperature/time).
Would have to sort headstamps accordingly.

If you are just plinking or hunting trimming probably be to more advantage than annealing.

Myself, I trim and anneal just Lapua brass every other firing.
Mixed brass just trim every other firing.

So I take it you are a shoot it till it splits kinda guy?

Most of my brass is LC, on its second or third loading. BUT, I don’t load hot; I got plenty of factory for that.

    Thanks for the reply!

Well lets say my mixed brass collection is pretty extensive so getting to split necks is probably not gonna happen (but yes).

Lapua brass is bolt gun only and mixed is gas gun/AR and sized accordingly.

This years project has been to trim/size and swedge all brass.
Back in the winter spent about 6 weeks on .223, ballpark 43,000 cases (still have to anneal about 600 Lapua).
Recently completed .308, just over 4,000 cases (still have to anneal about 800 Lapua).
Still have 6.5 to do, just under a 1,000 and anneal all.

Probably won't have to trim the .223 again in my lifetime.

    Out here by the lake!
I have a shit load of clean 5.56 brass with no intentions of ever reloading it. Matter of fact I generally no longer even pick up my brass. Some folks say machine gun brass is no good but I would say I see people picking it up still.

let me know if you want it?

I was thinking about getting myself an annealer but I just started 1yr of reloading. Still reloading 223 but wanted to get started with 308, and 6.5. Currently shooting 223 more then the .308 and 6.5..

Might get one and save it until I need it or something.
