Can't read without a subscription. Found another article. Hyundai said it's no longer representative of their brand... What about being representative of the area within which your dealership has thrived? Representative of the residents of the area? Reverence for history - all history - good or from which to learn?

    Ridiculous.

Since when do we maintain history with statues? I’m pretty sure our culture’s historical records are written down, and these shallow theatrics are played out.

The real headline should be. "Red MaCombs Hyundai has not balls!".

That dealership owner/s should stand its ground and not allow a South Korean company to dictate what an American business can display, and has displayed on its property for years.

It's sad to see local icons give way, not to memorialize anything but to help provide a sense of continuity important to small communities.
Another bit of Americana sacrificed to the gods of progress.

This seems like a case in manufactured rage.
Are any of the people upset able to convey what history is being lost?
When they removed the frogs off the building on Greenville Rd in Dallas, I don’t remember anyone saying anything about erasing history.
Stop looking for a reason to be a victim.

Red is dead and the statue has been there since it was a Pontiac dealership for advertising. Other than a landmark what purpose does it serve? If you feel that strongly get together, buy it and erect it somewhere else...

I agree..... it's ridiculous. It's been part of the Red McCombs dealer history. Part of the San Antonio community.

Erasing history?!? Exactly what history are they erasing? When Native Americans sold cars?!?

At most it's a cultural icon, and maybe worth saving (although it appears it is not in very good shape); but don't make it out to be more than it is!

This dinosaur was a part of a miniature golf course when I was a kid. When the course was razed to become a strip mall, there was a successful public campaign to save it. Money was then raised to restore it.

But at no time did anyone claim it was an attempt at erasing the Mesozoic Era!

Yep just old stuff, nevermind the decades of collective memories or even the people's affinity for it. It's not history, let it go, except, maybe it is history...
Maybe its iconic of local history, consisting of anecdotes and tall tales mixed with memories. Maybe it's a point of commonality, a nexus for shared experiences across generations of the community. Maybe it's a nostalgic landmark that played a tiny role in hundreds maybe thousands of lives, a backdrop to the tremulous progression of local culture.
Maybe it's just a valueless, wasted hunk of fiberglass beyond it's time, I kinda like option one.

Some people are missing the point. It is not the cultural icon, it is the reason it is being removed (e.g., woke). Woke will be the death of this country as we know it, unless it is stopped. And it has many manifestations.
