Anyone familiar with a shrimp boat deck?

I got this stool that was made from reclaimed wood of a shrimp boat in Galveston when Ike destroyed a bunch of them. Any idea what it originally was? I thought deck railing, but it's painted on all sides and the top The bottom has grooves. Any ideas. Just a pure curiosity.
