With the advancements made with the AR-15 since it came out in the late 1950’s, the Magazine’s have advanced as well. Some designs have earned their keep, while others have gone away. One thing is clear, most 5.56 rifles made, are made to use the AR-15 magazine. What are some magazines you trust? What are some you don’t trust?

There's a reason Magpuls are ubiquitous. Even if you want to go retro (new) there is a 98% chance that that aluminum mag has a Magpul anti-tilt follower in it.
I might need to take apart some aluminum Sanchez magazines I got circa 2000 that have gray Magpul like followers. Makes me wonder if the followers came before Magpul magazines.

The Gen 3 Magpuls are a lot better than their older ones. From what I have seen, the newer military aluminum Brownells work great (Okay and others make them too).

Imho not addressing any one in particular.

Magpul or USGI with magpul followers. Nothing beats them regardless of how much you pay for your brand snobbery.

Saving a couple bucks for crap mags is magtarded.

The only use i have for PMAGs is for converting to AR-180 magazines.

They don't handle long term loaded storage well, and m3's have compatibility issues with some AR's...

Lancer and real USGI aluminum. That's all i use

I don't any own ARs, so no problem with mags. I just use my double barrel shotgun & shoot it in the air if I'm worried for my safety.

I Have quite a few Israeli-made steel 20- rounders that Have been excellent.
I bought a passel of those in a deal with ammo once. Almost exactly like the HK steel mags. One was welded cockeyed. Still worked.

Still I used them as trade fodder.

Duramag is my favorite, magpul I just don't care for especially in double stack pouches. Magpul followers belong in every magazine imo.
I also have a metric shit ton of those 4.99steel south Korea mags, they hold up surprisingly well and I mainly use those anymore. 16 or more are loaded to 28 in 2 chest rigs found one in truck that was stuffed with 30 for over a year. Ran with zero issues for a 4.99 mag I'm happy. Now let a magpul sit in a hot Texas truck filled up with 30 and see how it works especially if dropped.

The newer Gen 3 tan Magpuls have proven themselves rather well. Not sure if the color matters, but the US Marines approved of them, and a few militaries use them with good success. Some of the units we train in Texas leave them in vehicles and aircraft with no real problems. For whatever reason only the tan Gen 3 Magpuls with windows are “approved” and used by NATO units.
