So I got a ati omni hybrid recently. The owner before me had already installed a free float barrel with a tac rail set from head down.
Now the problem I am currently having is when I try io install a scope the rails do no match up so I can't put it on. It looks like it's a couple millimeters off. Any thoughts or ideas?

    Picture?

Can you use a one piece mount like a PEPR? Will that overcome the issue?

Here are two different mounts, one PEPR and one Vortex. They both just mount to the upper and not the fore end.

Obviously I can't use the iron sights with them mounted, but that is why they are back ups.

Then you should be good to go. Most folks mount those on their upper receiver and it will not contact, or be affected by, your handguard rails. You still have the option for lights, lasers, front grips, cup holders and all the other things people put out there that don't need to be on the same plain as the other rail.

I used to think they were really dumb until I used them on a 3 gun several years ago, but the 45 degree canted sights aren't half bad.

I say this after trying nearly everything else including the Peper QD with larue/ Dr reflex mount on my ar10 (went with pepper because rails were slightly larger and larue wouldn't fit).
I've tried the weaver (old school) raised on my uncles hunting.
Ran 3 gun with 1x4 on an 1 moa spr with co witness (thought the 1x4 was too much trouble). (Almost tried and Elcan spectre, but just couldn't force myself to dish the cash on a 1x4.)
Have run acogs (never owned) now you can put reflex or iron sights on them. (I think some models had some very low pro built in.) Have run and owned 3x with aimpointm4's co witness and found that I wasn't a huge fan of having the 3x.
Especially since the more you add the heavier it gets, that's why the keyhole rails have taken off.
Ive gone back to preference of co witnessed Aimpoint (m4)

GL hope you can find a solution

How is the rail mounted? I had a similar issue with my DPMS style 308, but that has to do with the non conformity in the AR 308 world.

You really shouldn't be mounting optics to the handrail anyway — too easily disturbed there.

Definitely try the one-piece. The handrail is meant for lights, bi-pods, grips, etc. not something that requires a zero. It's the whole reason detaching the barrel from the handguard increases accuracy.
