Was in Academy the other day and they had the Ruger 1911. It was nice to be able to lay hands on it. The quality seems good and the price is definitely right for a stainless 1911. They had it for $699. I didn't take any pictures because we all know what it looks like already.

Saw another 1911 that made me chuckle a little. A buddy of mine has been talking about picking up a Taurus 1911 so I sent this to him and said, "Here's the pimp gun you wanted!"

Another interesting gun they had was a commemorative Texas CSA revolver by Heritage. Not my cup of tea, but I still thought it was neat.

Lastly there was a tactical shotgun I had never seen before. I thought it was a grey and black urban cammo type pattern at first, but on closer inspection… well, check it out. I was surprised it was made by Weatherby. To me the name Weatherby makes me think of nice traditional guns with pretty wood stocks... I mean I like tacticool stuff sometimes too, but what the heck were they thinking with this??

The sights must be on the other side of that Taurus, you know, for left handed gangbanger sideways holding. I'd have to kick my own ass for owning a gun that looks like that.

That is a pretty crazy for a Weatherby shotgun. I know they import them, I think from Turkey. Just another company reselling another's product for profit.

That shotty is exactly the thing that I'm trying to get into that business. It's called Hydrographics, and that pattern is the new buzz in that business! When I turn my 870 into a tactical, it will have that pattern on my parts. Its going to be my Zombie gun. Hopefully I can get things going with the business soon! You can do anything from Carbon Fiber to Wood Grain to Digital Camo to Skulls.

Most of the people I've seen buying guns in Academy either don't know anything abut guns, buy them because they're cheap ("Is this little .22 good for self-defense?"), or buy them because they look "Cool;" hence the .22 LR "AR-15s" and pink revolvers. I'm sure some gangsta or call of duty type will snatch this one up.

TheDan...Do you recall how much the commemorative Texas CSA revolver by Heritage was and which Academy it was at in your area? My dad might like that pistol. Thanks

Oh I know someone will buy it. I showed the pic to a friend of mine who has skulls all over his Harley and he thought it was the coolest shotgun ever. Hell, I'm not judging... I know not everyone is going to like my particular tastes. I'm just really surprised it was Weatherby that is marketing it. Seems out of character.

If you like that skull pattern, or have considered hydrodipping anything, I strongly reccomend you look into a place right here in San Antonio called "San Antonio Hydro Grafix" (www.sahydrografix.com) They have done a bunch of stuff for me and the guys I work with, and are top notch. Rifles, ATVs, basically anything you can think of. They have a few hundred patterns and the equipement they have is huge! I think the size limitation is like 12 feet by 5 feet. They recently dipped my sub-zero refrigerator doors to look like granite to match my kitchen countertops.......very cool stuff. Dont know about the skull pattern, not for me, but they have everything out there...

I saw that 1911 and wanted to take a picture, but there was a couple of guys who wouldn't stop looking at it. Let's just say it would gave been a very stereotypical picture. My wife would have gotten after me because the only thing better than a pic of that gun would have been a pic of that gun in those two guys hands.

Reviving an older thread cause I was in Academy the other day and ran into that Weatherby Home Security Pump.

I really like the gun. Not a skull fan, but until you look closely, it looks like some kind of camo.
Love the feel of the gun. The fore-end feels real solid (my Mossberg and the one at Academy work, but are very loose and it just doesn't feel right), the ghost ring sights. Also has a small picatinny (sp?) rain on the fore-end. The thing that will keep me from buying one is that I like the collapsable stock and I'm seriously doubting that the aftermarket will be there any time soon for this gun.

For $400, it seems like a decent deal.

I might get flamed for saying so, but I bought one. The only downside to it for me is the lack of aftermarket accessories. I put a Streamlight TLR-1 on the forend, and a 20 shell sling on it. I was really diggin the skull pattern since my 1911 has Punisher grips. It's a sweet shotty imo. It has a great pad on the buttstock, awesome sights (fiber optic front post), action is more smooth than Mossberg imo, and is lighter than alot of similar shotty's. I'll take a pic of it eventually.

Thanks for the feedback JohnnyReb. I'm still considering it, although it sounds like you are confirming my suspicion on the aftermarket.

And hell, how can someone flame you for buying something you that you are happy with. It's not like it's a piece of crap Taurus, or a cheap plastic Glock, or an unreliable 1911, or a butt-ugly Hi-point. Okay. Never mind. People do that all the time.
