This is an important message from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

    Good Afternoon,

The FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) Section is happy to announce our upcoming Retailer Day events. The session will be from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., unless noted differently. There will be presentations by the National Shooting Sports Foundation; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; the state point of contact when applicable; and the NICS Section.

    Monday, May 6, 2024
    Tower West
    Lower Level
    6100 Bandera Road
    San Antonio, TX 78238

Due to the size of the venue, seating for each venue will be first come, first serve. The event is being provided at no cost; however, all associated travel costs are the responsibility of the attendee. The government will not be funding or reimbursing for this event.

The event is scheduled for the one five–hour session, unless noted differently above and will not be live streamed or captured on video. The agenda items include but are not limited to:

    • A presentation by the National Shooting Sports Foundation on Operation Secure Store, “Don’t Lie for the Other Guy” and information on a suicide prevention program for your store or range.
    • Information about the process of conducting a NICS background check along with recent and future enhancements.
    • Information provided by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on how to pass a compliance inspection, proper completion of the ATF Form 4473, specific state/local regulations, emerging firearms industry trends, and top violations.
Make your reservation(s) today by sending an e–mail to NICS_EVENTS@FBI.GOV with your name, contact phone number, and your federal firearms license (FFL) number. This event is only open to FFLs and their employees.

We look forward to seeing you there!

On a sad note, the highly anticipated videos of blowing off the Clinton airport security chief's head will not be shown at the event. The program, "Body shots - We aim higher!" will be replaced by a lecture on showing proper respect to your ATF storm troopers, appropriately called, "Why Perfection Applies To You But Not To The ATFE". Again we remind guests that it's not necessary to give the full "Zieg Heil!" salute; the short arm raised at the elbow (also known as the Hogan's Heroes salute) will be adequate. FBI agents will be available for hire at a special discount for the event.
