A few days ago my PC's ram slots decide to screw off and show half of my 8 GB of RAM (actually a bit less than half). I check with both CPU Z and Speccy, both show 8GB, but as single channel not dual (had 2 4GB sticks). So I go to Frys in Austin to pick up a cheap temporary motherboard. I installed said new board and and now I find out my OS SSD got corrupted. That really pissed me off. So I had to format it and reinstalled Win 7 Pro 64bit. So far, everything is working fine :rocket:

From someone who doesn't know all that much about computers.....How did the SSD drive get corrupted?

it would show the blue screen screen of death right after the black windows screen popped up. that and whenever I would try to reflash the BIOS it would freeze. Clearing the CMOS didnt help either

    New motherboard, wrong HAL. EFI?
The system wouldnt boot up after the new motherboard was installed. So I figured it was the OS which was on an SSD. Reformatted it and installed windows and now everything is working fine.......so far. The only part I hated was reinstalling my CPU cooler (Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO) back on. that hold down bracket is a pain getting the mounting screws to catch

Yep. The reinstall swapped in the right HAL. Your motherboard had a different chipset/BIOS and Windows only installs the one it needs to use.

Jesus, and I thought I had bad luck with computers... Shit like this is why I do two things. First, don't mess with shit I don't understand. Second, buy a Geek Squad ADH ("accidental damage from handling) plan for all the new stuff. $260 for two years coverage, but the plan covers literally everything, from hardware/software failures to a drunk with a shotgun using your fancy-ass Macbook for target practice (yes it happened, not to me or anyone I know. Heard the story from a local GS guy when I asked for specifics about what is or isn't covered).
