I'd think posting on the Internet is a bad way to be a gray man.

If you believe there's ever a reason to have to travel on foot during a large scale emergency it would be in your best interest to understand and be prepared for the "grey man" concept.
Tacticool gear is fun and cool looking and the gear may be great in actual combat but if you're by yourself or few in numbers you're going to stand out and become a target for groups of savages that want/need your stuff more than you.
The more serious planners are already doing this.
