Having lived in the worst projects imaginable as a kid due to circumstances best left alone, I learned at a young age that being unremarkable and unnoticed can result in survival that otherwise may not be possible.

If "they" don't notice you, "they" will likely leave you alone, or at worst you might catch a glancing blow while "thier" attention is drawn elsewhere.

Adopting the Grey Man guise allowed me time to grow and train up to be much more effective as an adult.

Yep. Cargo shorts under jeans (and tshirt under shirt) so that when I take off running I can duck in somewhere, drop trou, and be in completely different clothes. Because I live spy-vs-spy like that.
