But there is Buddy's steak fingers in Andrews.Haven’t heard mention of the Dairy Queen Belt Buster and it’s CFS brother, the Dude.
Personally, there ain’t enough quality Chicken Fried Steak burger joints around anymore.

They made good burgers in the 70's.Dairy Queen has changed with the times. The newer versions are not that great. Now some of the older ones that are still doing things like the 1970's are pretty danged good. And yes, there is a huge difference.
Many years ago we actually had two Dairy Queen stores in Palestine, up until about the early 1990's. When they closed years ago an they built the new Dairy Queen on the loop, with all the other fast food joints, it never was the same again. The burgers and the rest of the food just never tasted like it did years before.
Some years ago, when I was working over close to Fairfield Texas, they had one of the older Dairy Queen franchises, and the food tasted like it did many years ago.
A few years ago, I was surfing the internet late one night and stumbled upon this information as to why there are different Dairy Queen stores and why the food is different.

Explains why some Dairy Queen stores carry the "Dude" sandwich, and some don't. Interesting information.

People buying burger went to Silver Fross (car hops) on the Eastside of town, or McDonalds on the Westside. Gear Heads cruised both Friday & Saturday nights. If you were all torqued up in the early hours of the morning you drove to Aurora for White Castles. More hot dog joints the burgers in Joliet.
When I would go home for a visit or funeral Chicago dogs, pizza & Italian beef sandwiches were the foods I missed. Never said I want a burger!
I ate @ Pitt Grill once or twice. The Pitt Grill is where a buddies mean old uncle Jack ate his meals, so it was off limits. He always went across the street to the place near that motel.Texas did have their fair share of Dairy Queen stores. More that a few small towns had two or three of them. At one time, years ago, we had four, yes, four Pitt Grill diners scattered around Palestine. The very last one closed up just a couple of years ago. I loved having breakfast at a Pitt Grill!
Wasn't a very good show IMHO. They did show Burger Bar in Palestine. The Daytripper just did a Texas burgers episode...
People think a burger has to have a half a cow in them to be a good burger.Wasn't a very good show IMHO. They did show Burger Bar in Palestine.

The Hamburger Bar, sadly the wife informed me a few weeks ago, closed down late last year. They had a good run since the 1940's.
Around Houston area Kelly's Country Cooking used to have a burger that was a 1 pound patty. It came with probably 2 pounds of fries. The burger was griddle cooked & was very good. In my younger days I could only eat the burger & half the fries. Now it would probably hurt me!People think a burger has to have a half a cow in them to be a good burger.
Have any of you been to Meers, Oklahoma? They serve one that covers a pie pan. It's good to have friends to share with.

The seismograph there is pretty cool. Was stationed in OK for six year and went to Meers a couple of times a year.
I usually got the BLT instead of a burger. Seemed like a pound of bacon, half a head of lettuce, and a sliced whole tomato.
I was wondering if they'd checked to make sure all of those places were still open.
The other day when we were in search for a decent burger. I noticed a Christina's Tailgate on Kirby. I had ate one years ago & wasn't that impressed. This thread & not having had a burger in a while I confirmed it was what I thought & checked out the menu, needless to say their $12.00 - $15.00 burgers won't be consumed by me.
