    All in all, the Earps weren't very good examples of law abiding citizens. They tended to try to stack any deck they could into their favor, and grab all the influence and power they could in order to maintain their advantage. They're only remembered as the "good guys" because they generally clashed with folks who were even worse, and they often managed to be wearing badges while doing so.

    The Earps definitely supported the modern political ideal of making statutory exceptions for themselves while enforcing the laws (that they wrote) upon others.
