I've got a pound of blue dot, its older powder in a cardboard container with the Hercules logo still and I need to load up some 45acp with it. Unfortunately I can't find any load data for it. Anybody have a recipe or maybe wanna trade lb for lb for something more suitable to the task.

A quick Google search turned up personal loads using 8.5 - 10 grains but I'm hesitant because I can't seem to find ANYTHING in print.

There’s plenty of load data out there, hot stuff .
Blue dot is not for moderate loads as it will leave unburnt powder.

I happen to have an old Alliant manual.

My old eyes thinks that table says 9.8 grains of blue dot for 230 grain JHP. That's surely an absolute maximum load. IMO, I wouldn't begin going beyond 8.5 grains, and see how it goes from there.

I don't disagree with you and everything that I've read says that just about any load using this powder in an auto is going to be spicy. I'm fine with that...I'll likely drop it to 9 and see where I'm at. I'm also thinking that case capacity may become an issue as well but we'll see.

I've used in the past in 45ACP, but its less than ideal. Its a relatively slow powder that seems to prefer higher pressure cartridges (357 mag, 9mm), so you might see unburnt powder.

I'm loading these up as a favor for a friend using his components, his brass, powder, projectiles and primers. I'm almost wondering if I should donate some of my stash to make decent rounds?
