Figured I would ask since I'm ready to finish a few builds.

I moved to to flower mound about 6 months ago and have yet to get a texas dl. I need 2 stripped lowers to complete my builds but I'm not sure how to get them legally at this moment.

I Have a Colorado ccw permit, own a house in flower mound which I live in. I haven't had time yet to get my tx license with starting a new job, buying a house and having our second baby.

Am i I ok to purchase ftf here since I'm technically a resident ? Anyone want to sell me 2 lowers if so?

hopefully this is the right spot to post this.

If if its a big deal I'll just wait till I have time to get the license, inspection, etc sorted out.

    Thanks

Technically you are illegal now. I would get your license and a Texas chl as you are a resident now of Texas but not Colorado. When I was military I could buy without Texas license but I was on military orders. Good luck

That's what I assumed. Wasn't sure if having a mortgage and bills here sufficed for residency. Figured it wouldn't. Oh well, I'll just wait till I have time to deal with it.

According to ATF, you can with rhe right documentation. Getting a shop or individual to go along is another story. Most won't touch it. Best to change your DL over to Texas.

To drive legally, one must apply for a Texas DL within 90 days after moving to Texas.

I realize that, we were in an apartment while closing on our house and I didn't want to deal with changing addresses again so soon. We got in the house, 2 weeks later it was Christmas, 3 weeks after that we had the baby. I'll find the time this week, I need to get these projects done.

If I remember correctly a non resident can still purchase long guns. Just wouldn't be able to buy a handgun.

Since I've got your ear, in regards to the below

Your only obligation is to reasonably assume that the purchaser is a Texas resident and legally able to own and possess the firearm. Often times people will request a Texas Drivers License to ensure they are a state resident, write a bill of sale, and sometimes take information from the purchaser. All of these are not required, but to some, are good practice to ensure you, as the seller, are performing your duty properly. Each seller's methods vary, and some buyers are defensive about providing personal info to strangers due to identity theft.

i did plenty of ftf in CO prior to the new bullshit laws that nobody abides by anyways and aren't enforced. Anyways, do you guys typically provide a copy of dl here? Bos? Those were big no-no's for most of the people I dealt with including myself. I'm assuming it's the same way here, but thought it was worth asking.

Thanks, I looked over most of it around Christmas, I have plenty of documentation. At this point it's finding the time to get it all done, which I need to do sooner rather than later.

You do not have to have a TX DL to purchase from a dealer. You are not "illegal" You could be cited for driving for not obtaining a TX DL.

    See 4473 instruction 20.

I can't say I've ever read that part of the form. I'll give it a try this week. And get my license for tx taken care of.

Thanks for all the help guys!

I shipped my own gun to a dealer here before it became illegal in my home state. Then i moved from NY to TX. The ffl dealer would not release my gun to me without a Texas DL. Luckily he didn't charge me for the 2 months it sat there. I tried having them send it to another ffl here but I couldn't find anyone who would release it to me with a NY license even though I was a resident here and had my lease for my apartment with me.

Anyway.... Here is some info as to why...

Your dealer is a idiot. Yous should have contacted me, I would xfer it to you without TX/DL. There is lots of valid ID that can be accepted.
