I need two mags for my new Pro Carry, I have always used factory mags in the past, is this (Chip vs Wilson) a Ford vs Chevy thing (opinion)? Or can I go with cheapest of the two? CTD has Chip's for like 23 bucks.

Anybody know a better deal than that?
Also, what about gouging in the frame from the follower? Issue with these?

I've heard the metal followers on the Chips can eat into the aluminum frame, but I think they have some new followers that don't. You may want to check out this thread: Kimber Aluminum frames and McCormick Mags Revisited - 1911Forum

I personally use the KimPro TacMags on my aluminum framed Ultra. They don't cause any damage and they run flawless. I've heard good things about the Wilson's too.

Best .45 mag is Tripp Research.

At some point in our lives, everyone buys cheap mags. Eventually most learn WHY they are cheap. Usually when you find out it's the cause of problems and as you're stomping it into the mud.

Wilson has the best track record of reliability.

The Chips had a similar reputation until a few years ago when there were issues with soft feed lips. I don't have any current information if this problem has been fixed.

I've used MecGar mags which a lot of manufacturers use as their stock OEM mags and I've NEVER had a single malfunction with them. YMMV

I've had 25 years of good luck with Wilson mags. I've even got some of my originals still going strong after replacing the springs and followers several times over the years.
