CHL application online prior to class

Has any one completed the online CHL application prior to taking the class? Is there any trade offs or benefits by doing so?

Less paper work.
They send you the fingerprint cards and photo cards which make it easier on your instructor. You also receive the booklet of Tx gun laws so you have something to review prior to and during your class.

I just did the renewal thing on line. Can I expect a new handbook? I did'nt see anything about it and my booklet is from 2006.
