The Civil War Weekend!

Well, I've seen civil war reenactments in California, Nevada, and Georgia; I might as well see one in Texas! And it's a good way to kill a Saturday or Sunday. Anyone else plan on going?

According to the site it's $10 to get in and an additional $5 to tour the plantation house. Parking is free.

I worked in one of the prison units between Hempstead and Navasota which is close to that site. It was a pretty big deal in the area. The trip is a straight shot from Houston off of 290.

I stayed on the prison grounds during the week and came home on the weekends. I recall that places to eat (other than fast food) are slim pickens around Hempstead so plan accordingly. It's a bit better for grub and accommodations in Navasota.

There is food available at different vendors on the grounds. If it rains Saturday it could get pretty muddy. but if they have a good reenactor turn out, multiple cannons going off for the reenaction will stop traffic on 290
