An escaping "convicted" inmate buys a full ride justification in every jurisdiction I know of but you better be sure that's who it is. Unless ofcourse other factors come into play.

Like certain things after dark round your home etc.

There are limits on shooting non convicted escaping prisoners in some places. That doesnt apply here.

IF he did end up getting shot or killed, there will be some bleeding heart liberal that will wail and moan about his rights being denied, and some other crap.

The escaped convict ain't in jail for singing too loudly in church! AFAIC, he's an armed and potentially dangerous escaped prisoner. IF he did end up getting shot, I'm not shedding any tears over his demise.

When I drove prisoners, everyone got their own set of handcuffs and then leg irons betweven two convicts. If a prisoner was a single or a bug, chain belt cuffs and their own leg irons.
You aren’t supposed to chain a convict the seat. Although it wouldn’t bother me if they did.
Also, two Officers, one in front one in the back, one Sergeant and one driver.
As said, something was terribly wrong.

I heard a news clip on the radio about him escaping. The radio said he stabbed a guard.

That did happen, no major injuries to staff.
Apparently my inside info was not completely accurate. The driver was injured during the escape, not stabbed.
Still, no major injuries to staff and all other inmates remain in custody.

EDIT: re- watched vid, the driver was stabbed; I should pay more attention. :p

My guess would be he had metal to shim his cuffs open which means they wernt double locked and that's what he stabbed the officer with. A pick to open thru the key hole probably wouldnt be able to be used to stab. Just thinking out loud.

Also buses should've been fully caged and no officers in with the inmates with the armed staff outside the cage. Having an officer in the caged area is a hostage in waiting. Transporting inmates on a non caged bus is stupid.

Last time I saw a murderer being transported he was in hand and leg chains, with LE on both sides with waist chains held by LE. Guess they changed protocol.

2:45 min video update by TDCJ spokesman.

I just realized . . it's interesting the spokesman kept referring to service revolver. While a S&W revolver has been used for many decades by transport & in perimeter pickets, transportation staff started carrying a 9mm SA (+ a pump shotgun for the officer at the rear of bus) around 8yrs ago.

The old flat-nosed pusher buses are definitely caged off for driver & and rear exit officer. No staff with inmates.

I've never seen the inside of the new buses which look like a standard 66 passenger school bus but, one would hope they are configured as good if not better.

Last summer while I was in the ER, they brought in an inmate from one of the local prisons in our county, and the CO's that were escorting him were carrying revolvers.

Maybe not all have switched yet?

With only one inmate, reality should have been one unarmed CO manipulating restraints as needed to assist medical staff and guiding/moving (wheel chair, etc.) the inmate through the building. The other armed CO should be at least 10' from the inmate at all times and/or guard the hospital room door. These would be Unit COs and they would have a revolver. When I say transportation staff, I'm talking about those who move bus loads of inmates as was the case in yesterday's escape.

So it was a bunch of guys being moved? I just assumed since more guys weren't on the lam that it was a solo deal.
