Boiling water, kerosene, carb cleaner or brake cleaner. Boiling water is "safest", but takes a while. Brake cleaner is about the fastest. Someone told me oven cleaner will do it - but that stuff's just too nasty IMO.

how bad is it for 1? do you want the long best way? the easy quick? or the medium? is it really infused into the wood? globs everywhere or just slightly?

Make sure you take it all the way down.

The previous owners of my old SKS and Lee Enfield only wiped down the outside of the rifles. Tons of crap inside them and they just didn't work right until I figured out how to take everything apart and cleaned them.

For the metal I use NAPA degreaser and a kerosene mix 60/40.
    works every time.
For the wood put it in a black garbage bag in the bed of a pickup for a1/2 hour
at a time wiping it down and doe it again until it gone then I wipe it down with mineral sprits.

Its that forgiveness vs. permission thing.

THAT kinda behaviour usually results in permanent castration, trust me....

If you think that would be bad, try not getting the M1 Carbine stock out of the dishwasher before herself got home, LOL. If the Mosin will fit, a dishwasher will clean the heck out of a stock prior to refinishing.
